This is the third of the four elements. I'm hoping "Air" will get painted tonight.
It's 15.5 x 16 inches, oil on panel.
Thanks for looking!

I wanted to add that the red here is lousy. It's not nearly this pink.... I've photographed this in every way imaginable to try to get it to come through with the colors truer. This is the best I got. :(
Anyway, here's a detail:

yowza. i can feel the heat off this puppy. great looseness and texture going on to. is this done with a palette knife too?

07-05-2002, 05:02 PM
I hope you don't mind me doing this, but are either of these closer to the actual painting?

07-05-2002, 06:35 PM
Yeah, actually! Much better. Whadya do? The first one is probably the closest. Thanks!

EJ~ Yes, it's a pallette knife. Thanks for looking!

np :)

Went into photoshop and did a Selective color change on the reds. Decreased the magenta percentage a little bit and darkened it. The second one is after running an autolevels on the above.

duh, in all my editing of the image i forgot to mention i really like this painting! :) Really get the feeling of fire from it. Can you explain the use of the triangles though..?

Hi aurorapope:
I too can really feel the heat coming from this one, and very well done I might add!

You know, I tried messing with it in Photoshop. It just didn't want to do for me, I guess. But thanks again! The triangles are old alchemical symbols for the elements. Water is a triangle too, but points downward. Earth's triangle also points down, but there's a line through it. Air's triangle points up with a line through it. When they are all finished they are meant to hang together as a square, with all the lines of triangles radiating out from the center. Anyway, one more to go. :)
(edited cuz I'm a ding dong and forgot.... Earth and Water are here http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46274 and here http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46213 if you wanna go see their triangles. )
Kathy, thanks for checking it out! I'm glad it feels hot to you guys. I was working towards that. And these are so fun to work on. It's so freeing..... :D

salesmen sell things
this is serious
im not a palette knife admirer

the immediacy
the urgency of fire

Thanks guys! And RWeller, again I appreciate your help with this one. It makes such a difference.

07-07-2002, 07:09 PM
hey no problem :) If you want to use the image for anything else you can go ahead (personal website, selling, etc), it's your painting afterall :)

on a side note, I'm glad we can keep our silly debates in the debate forum. Enemy in one place, friend in another haha, j/k ;)

Hot stuff :) ! I like this entire series - but, I can't find "water" - did you post it? The three I've seen on this page are fantastic!

07-08-2002, 02:24 PM
the heat rising, the building up feel to this is quite good
your background hue a perfect swelter, glowing
I like the feel of charred carbon within the color
even though there's much blending and melting together
there's a crisp crackle to this too
well done

Tigerlily, Water is here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46274
I'm glad you like these! I'm missing them now that they're done. Maybe I should delve into the periodic table or something.
Zot~ :p
