View Full Version : Jasper

When my baby girl sleeps I do a bit of artwork here and there. I have my artwork in an easy accessible place so that when I walk past it sometimes I might just add a bit.
This is a portrait of a kitty named Jasper from the RL, 34x34cm pastel pencils. I feel he looks much better in real life as I had some issues with photographing him. (xposted to A&W) Comments most appreciated! :cat:

Oh my goodness, I almost reached out to pet his soft fur! This is GREAT!

Thanks everyone, artwork is a fair bit slower these days but I am still managing to get a little bit done. Here is another photo of Jasper which is probably better than the first. Hope to stop by again with something new in the future.

All I can say is WOW. That is the type of quality that I hope to attain in my work some day.

omg ... i wouldn't have imagined how you could have improved on what you'd done previously !! ... but you've managed to !! ... jasper is a masterpiece !! ... unless it's the differences in the pics themselves, you've heightened the contrast within your painting ... lightened the lights and darkened the darks it seems ... and what a difference that makes to even a painting that looks fabulous beforehand ... that's something we should all keep in mind and ask ourselves about our own work ... has the contrast been pushed enough? ... !! ... your example is a good lesson ...

Thanks so much everyone!!!

Rose - My baby girl is going good and growing so quickly. She is almost 4 months now and starting to teeth already. Her and her brothers keep my days pretty full at the moment but I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Holley, I have come back to gaze into these eyes about 4 times and didn't take the time to comment - so here I am to say this is just delightful and very well done.

You must love your quiet time and it has paid off beautifully!

Hello Holley! What a pleasure to see your beautiful work. I like doing cats, and kitties, but they don't look as wonderful as this. The eyes! Wow. What paper did you use for this one? Thanks for posting!

Thank you Carol, IMaybe and Luvy.

IMaybe - I always use Canson Mi-Tientes (smoothside), I know alot of artists don't like using it but it works for me.

Keep at it Holley! For many years, when my children were small, I made the mistake of not keeping my stuff out to keep painting no matter what and I had big gaps in my creative life. Beautiful work on the lovely cat!

Holley, this is just stunning!....love the realism and expression you have captured!! :).....the one thing I really like about pastel pencils is that you can easily pick them up or leave them when need be!.....hope you soon get time to produce some more of your beautiful work! but what a lovely way to have your time taken up!
