Lynne WC has the ISGB forum beat by a hundred miles, and they have the friendlyest group of artist here. I decided to not go back to ISGB because if my mind it has gone down hill. Their rules sux! don't do this, you can't do that. that bead looks porno so we'll remove it.
Welcome to WC and a great bunch of people.

Laura How the heck did you do that? I couldn't figure it out, I wanted to put the picture in the body of the post too but duhhhhhh,, So if you have a moment can you tell me? I tried cut and paste in the body and it just placed the link. I also tried to put a picture under my name but I couldn't...... Be patient with this old gal, she has a love hate relationship with her puter,,,,,,, Thank you again Laura, I appricate you. Stacylynne

hehe Hi StacyLynne!

Well it is pretty easy, first make sure the picture is on your harddrive. Make sure it is under 500 pixels either way (I believe). Then after you type in your message, in the box below the message where is says browse, press that, find the picture and then press submit reply, your picture was to big so I made it smaller, maybe that was your problem?

Welcome!

Lara It took me 4 months to design cut and build this mural.

For anyone else that is looking to do a mosaic of any size. Here is a how too.... I teach mosaic classes so I will give you all a quickie version of a mosaic application.

You always need a good solid base to work on always clean wood or in the case of the Virgin Mary it was hardy backer board used in shower and bath enclosuers. I used on the project the indirect- direct method this means simply I built it in my studio and after it was all done I took it to the site and placed it on the wall in sections.... I took sheets of glass and cut them all up in 3/4 x 3/4 squares, My cartoon was on the bottom with a large piece of plastic on top and on top of that the mesh, this way I could see the cartoon and the colors. Have you ever seen tile that has a mesh on the back of it? I used a mesh similar to that, had it imported from Japan. I placed each tessere ( square) on top and clued down until I completed the 4x6. when it was all dry (I used white glue elmers) I sectioned it all out cutting into the mesh transported it to the church where we had earlier put up the hardy backer board I applied a slurry of cement onto a 2x2 area and attached each one. That took one day for the install. I am proud of that work and go to see it from time to time making sure she is still happy in her special spot. I have made been commissioned to do large table tops and other projects also but am phasing it out and concentration on my home and working on a coffee table for my living room. Any questions please email me or post here I will do what I can... Stacylynne

Wow StacyLynne!

How did you cut up those 3/4" pieces? with a saw, nippers? It is really amazing! I have a ton of stained glass around, doing nothing!

hehe

stacylynne,

if you need more help with posting pics, there's a thread titled 'how to post pics' (or something like that) way down the list of threads. the moderator started a new thread on my account because i could not (duhhhh) get the hang of posting a pic! :D anyway, it's very helpful...

see ya! i've been thinking about masks, and am off to see if there are any cool pictures of them on the internet.

Laura

I cut them up with a glass cutter. I find a square ft of glass for me was the easiest to handle and I measured out and drew on the glass lines representing 3/4x3/4 and scored it and broke it with a tool called running pliers, its a tool cold glass users use. I also used a pair of tile nippers the best ones to buy are the kind that have 2 round disks of steel on them they allow you to make more delicate rounds and turns on the glass giving you different shapes.......DON'T but the flat ones they are crap. (don't forget to wear safety glasses) Stacylynne

StacyLynne is amazing. I'm going to dig up the picture of her black & white vessel and post it (it's one of my favorites). You should see her "doodles" too - my finished drawings should look that good!

Mosaics are one of my other loves. I, too, don't do them much anymore, but am starting to get motivated. So much art to create, so many day jobs getting in the way...

I guess I'm afraid that it may sound like bragging if I post pictures of my work so I mostly just read what everyone has to say. I will see if I can do this again and post one of my favorite pieces I have done. I am hosting a vessel exchange on another board and might do one like this. Thanks again for the welcome.
