I've had a request for clear and white beads. No other restrictions, technique is wide open. Anyone have some neat ideas using just these two colors? Help! I need some inspiration! :D

Well, you could make a complex twistie can out of the clear and white and then make cool swirls.

You could make frit from the clear and roll the white bead in it.

You could definitely etch them.

You could do lovely clear beads with white scrolls/swirls as surface decoration.

White hearts? (Can you use silver foil? That would be a wonderful addition)

Of course, the old standbyes - white with clear bumpies, white stripes on a clear base, white harlequin on clear, etc.

And maybe just plain white and plain clear with decoration is a "resist" and then etch.

And, of course clear hollows.

Also cubes to look like ice cubes.

Disks.

Well, hopefully that gives you a couple ideas to start from...

i have one bead that I didn't make that has white and clear... It's tabular, white core and lightly cased in clear, with little spirals done with white stringer on top of the clear (which also pulled some of the clear casing into the spiral). It's lovely- a little bridal looking, and of course right now i can't find it so i can post a pic for you. I'll search a little- will post when i find it.

I vote yes for etching too.

I also recently made a few beads that were a clear core heavily coated with white powdered glass. They looked like candy. I wanted to lick them. But I didn't, since they weren't for me.

Hope this helps a little.

Good luck!

Wow! Thanks B2 :D

Ever have one of those days where nothing creative comes to mind? There I am today, heh! Made lots of spacers...I didn't even think of the enamel either, to show you how "off" I am, Margaret. Plus the swirls sound cool.... To the torch...! I will wait until my beads are cool to lick them

Hi Candace,

I ran into a lady from our church parish at the doctor's rooms this am and she asked me if I would make her a necklace with white beads too!
Thanks to all the suggestions in answer to your posting I'm now brimming over with ideas - instead of nicely telling her to go to a bead shop and buy a stack and I'll thread them for her cheaper than I'll make the beads for a necklace.
Cheers again,
Koala.

A beader friend of mine made clear beads with beautiful flowers out on them in white. Then she etched them. I loved the design. Also very bridal looking, but could be used for anything. She is on here her name is glassnut, you could ask her to see the pics she has some and they are worth looking at!!!!

That sounds like a pretty idea that a 70 year old might like !
I'll try using a silver/ivory stringer to twist the dots a bit and leave a central silver 'dot' - reckon a slight touch of silver would just give the right amount of oomph to the centre of say a three or five twisted pattern.
Thanks for the idea

Oh,thanks, everyone!I've got 3 lbs. of that clear kugler crap that was around awhile back. When I saw the great ASK beads earlier it awoke a long repressed memory of the kugler clear.Maybe I can do something with it after all....I hope.

I guess maybe I am just old fashioned then! I thought they were beautiful, classy and elegant.

Hey there Cecilia,
I wasn't being derogatory when I said that the 70year old would like them!!! LOL

I was merely saying I thought that she would really like them - as I'm sure she's as young at heart as any young romantic person!!!!

Actually I did take a couple of sample beads along to show that I made with the clear decorated with white as well as smaller plain white spacer beads and she thought they were just lovely - so did a couple of younger women who would have been half her age.

Cheers

Hi folks,

Further to the clear glass beads with white decoration - I experimented with small opaque white three-petal flower shapes which I twisted in the centre of each with a fine white stringer. Then dotted periwinkle blue over the top of the centre and left it slightly raised. Dotted a few tiny white and blue at random around each of the flowers. It made such a difference to the appearance. Can just see someone wearing this on a really hot summer's day

I was thinking of having the main beads the solid white and these clear decorated ones as 'spacers' but I think now they would look better as the feature beads with small plain white ones in between.

Cheers
Koala.

Here's my white & clear beads. I made a white base, rolled it in white pixie dust & put clear shards on the top. The round ones are a white base rolled in clear frit which I left raised. I called them "Melting Snow".

Those are really lovely! They look so...I don't know the right word, delicate perhaps, or both simple and sophisticated.

Somewhere recently (perhaps in a show & tell) I saw a striking white and clear bed. It was made like the ones from Brad Pearson (from the Dot book) where there is a disk, with multicolor stacked dots on the edges, that are then raked towards the bead hole. Same idea, but stacked white and clear dots...really nice.

Hi folks,
I'm looking for white pixie dust now - as I think that would look nice on the smaller (spacer beads) with the white decoration on clear beads being the focals. As soon as I get a few together I'll post pictures.
Trying to locate the pixie dust first -

Mixednut - don't worry I've made my fair share of faux pas over mailing lists - won't even touch that one!!! Its so hard to converse with people when you don't get an opportunity to see them face-to-face as you talk so you can pick up on the inflections in the voice when someone is making a comment.
It can come over as a slight - or as a joke and there's no way of knowing when all you see is the written word. Cheers Koala.

Oh - I love these! Especially the little round ones - they look like snowballs. They would make a gorgeous bracelet.
