I went down the coast yesterday and started painting about 9AM. I was going to paint a terrific view down the coast but it was so hazy it would have looked like paper cutouts, so I decided to paint some of the spectacular rocks with the morning sun hitting them and the shadows.. an hour latter the wind was blowing so hard I had to bunji cord my palette down to the FE drawer and I had to hold the easel with one hand while painting with the other.. there were gusts that must have been up around 50mph and some of the waves just up the cliff from me were splashing all the way up to the top of the cliffs, a good 50 feet or more! It was pretty exhilarating, but I finally decided I'd had enough about noon and so I packed up my stuff and crawled back up the cliff. I then sat in the safety of my car eating my lunch and watching the amazing surf and wind before going home for the day. I wish I had painted one of the waves hitting the rocks in the painting to add more excitement.. maybe a larger, more refined studio version...
