If you are like me, you often wonder how you got that particular green last week. I wanted a color chart that would be small; give a wide range of color mixtures; and something I could use in the field or in my studio. This color chart can be attached to my easel, it rotates around displaying the tube colors I use on my palette with mixtures and value changes. I started the chart with the pure tube colors...warm to cool. I then take each color and mix it half-n-half with each of the other colors. Each of these rows of colors I make one value change by mixing with white half-n-half. The directions are simple to make this, however it will take some time to do the acual color chart.
Directions:
1. Get an empty plastic bottle (in my case I have a bottle measuring 10" circumference). Cut the neck of the bottle off, and cut a hole (centered) in the bottom. I used a 1/2" plastic PVC pipe, so my holes in the bottle were slightly larger than the diameter of that pipe.
2. Cut a length of PVC pipe about 2" longer than the length of the bottle.
3. Get 2 PVC extender connections, and drill a hole near the end of each.
4. Now it is up to you to decide how to connect it to your easel. I used 2 shaped pieces of strong wire that quickly attach to my easel.
This color chart works great. It is out of the way, and you dial the colors you want by simply turning the chart around with your thumb. :D Yax
