Howard you're painting again, hooray! (Btw, I FINALLY saved up and got my order in on the Matisse colored grounds, well, the first half of the order, I got about 10--I want 20 :)! Hopefully I'll get them soon and get to show off--thank you so much for the tip on those...)

I did this one last night.
18" x 24" on watercolor paper
I had to reduce the light when taking the pic. My camera was saturating the colors in the sky

Howard- Wow I love that use of color, very intriguing. Plus big thumbs up on the splatter ;)

Grekslay- This is a really interesting concept of different times of day, and u pulled it off really well!

Rich- This looks really illustrative, looks like there's a great story behind it :)

Still working on my knots over here, defiantely not liking how the portrait part is coming out so i'm gonna put in a lot of work into that today and get that done, hopefully achieve what i'm going for in this accuriately. Honestly I need to flip it upside down again and keep working that way.

Howard: What beautiful colour and textures!
grekslay: I love this idea! great work!
raizes:Very moody..love the dramatic lighting!
Justsomedude 86: An interesting decorative approach. I like the composition and how the pattern changes colour on the lower edge.
Good to see all these new paintings ...I just wish i had something to contribute ...maybe next time.:D

this next layer took most of today and I may have rushed it a bit. There is a layer of molded gesso, a layer of extruded gel medium, all that had to dry and then a layer of copper and a layer of gold paint. It is a nice shiny surface. The metallics are the Montana Gold colors and have a wonderful sheen to them.

grekslay, nicely done! I like that you did 3 different versions--I have a favorite aspect in each one--I like the pole the best in the top, the contrast of the line in the bottom left and the color of the sky in the bottom right--probably couldn't get it to show up that way in life, but those are my favorite elements :)

Nicely done, Raizes, I especially LOVE that water...

some dude, i like the way you're doing the knots too, the color shifts...hope you got the portrait part worked out, it's hard stuff!

There is some great stuff happening this week!

Ok, so i have this back on my easel, I started it ages ago when I was having an emotionally tough day! So once I got painting I felt better! I'm not sure if its finished, and since it was done out of emotion & i'm not feeling that way anymore I dont feel inclined to finish it really! Maybe in that case it is finished.

Some pictures are showing up and some aren't... I don't know why... (that goes for avatars, too)... seems sporatic... I'll check back to this later for comments on the ones that aren't showing up.

EP, that's pretty cool looking... I love the colors..

Justsomedude, I love the knots! Can't much help with portrait thoughts, though.... I stick at them... Love the card, too, though...

Thought I'd throw this up as I'm still working on it until I get the stuff I need for my commissions (my local art place had to reorder the fabric medium... their other supplier is out. >.< If they can't get it on this order, I'm gonna just order it online like I probably should have done in the first place. *sigh*) I like how this is turning out, actually. Haven't come up with a name for it, though.. figure I'll wait till I'm done.

Oh, and the yellow is a lot more yellow in person... Just couldn't get a good picture of it last night, even with the Ott light... but it's better than I would have otherwise gotten. :)

Hi all...what a weekend...lol. I was hoping today would go better...that'll teach me.

Howard, I love how the colors are going.

Grekslay, interesting perspectives...cannot make up my mind which I like best.

Rich...I love the colors as they are, and bet they are even better in RL.

Justsomedude...those knots are still phenomenal...and I am sure you will get the portrait part.

Eyepaint, it looks even pricklier than before....more and more like my son...lol.
:o had to look up Tom Thompson...interesting.

Sun_shine...I can relate to emotionally tough days.

Kat, I know what you mean about the pics...tried to get something from the library this am...and there was nothing. I like the colors, and the interesting
composition.

I am still trying to finish some stuff up for the showing this weekend, in between battles with my son. Did not get much done this weekend, and a little bit this am. This is what I have so far...and the colors are really not quite so dull and lifeless... the day is gloomy and my phone pics were really bad, and somehow using the scanner on the big one, was iffy...putting more than two pieces together is not too easy...lol. Still have not made up my mind whether to drag everything with me this time, or just some of it...gonna have to find out how much space I am gonna have. At least I won't be outside this time...lol.

The show in March will be outside, and I don't have a tent or anything so I sure hope the weather is good then.

Well with much more tinkering this weekend I'm much more satisfied with the portrait now, and if anything by making the nose bigger i got a much better likeness. The thing I found out that was off the most was I needed to extend her right cheek and I had to drop her left eye down maybe 1/3 inch down. Very huge improvement, now I just need to keep working the body, card, background, and knots. So maybe another 30+ hrs... ;)

This one is a birthday gift of gramps and Jennifer! I am doing it from an old sepia tone faded photo. The family has helped me come up with some of the details. We have determined that he has a can of schlitz beer next to him, but none of us know what gramps is eating. I finally located a similar can, and still have a lot to do on this! It's fun though! Acrylic on canvas 20 x 24.

I just started on this site today, I hope it is ok to join this thread. Each of your what's on your easel is really good. Funny I saw even more when I clicked reply. Guess I will learn. Just started back painting after about 15 years of inactivity. Here is what is on my easel. I still have a lot to do, but this on has a combination of Grumbocker and and Old Holland Acrylics. I just started using the Oh and so far love them.

I look forward to getting to know folks on here.

Lillian, I have no idea about perspective, but it looks great to me! The brickworks is really well done and the figures have great, natural poses. The only tiny thing that jumps out at me is the alley is slanted at the very end, but maybe you meant it that way, since it seems concave closer to us, thus the puddle...what is it that is bothering or not quite right to you?

lilbelle
02-27-2008, 10:40 PM
Thank you Eliza! You're right about the alley, it shouldn't be that slanted. I'll have to redo the lines. I left the tops of the buildings with very little brick detail and don't know if I should try painting more in. I appreciate the extra eyes, and have been trying to figure out what wasn't right. Thanks again!

Welcome Dejaa, I like the way you're balloon glows from inside. It's coming along very nicely!

you're very welcome! I very much like the lack of detail on the top of the buildings, it adds to the feeling of distance. It's hard to see here since it's so small, but I would just check to make sure the transition is kind of random and not too abrupt, ie. not a straight, solid line of brickwork next to no detail whatsoever...great variation in colors, too, btw, and I love the shadows and puddle too.

Welcome Dejaa, I like the way you're balloon glows from inside. It's coming along very nicely!

Fantasy Battle Scene - Acrylic on Daler Board.

Left to Right: Dragon - Amazon Warrior (white bit) - Plate mail Warrior

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/28-Feb-2008/127764-stage_.jpg

I have had 3 sittings so far. Today I have been playing with the background colours and the dragon smoke. Tomorow I will work on the central figure who will have an Amazonian warrior feel. Initially I used a grid to scale up the figure on the right from a photo that I took. Since then I have abandoned this approach and tried to be looser.

The composition will develop over time.

I like the angles, strong light and shadow and the common colors in different areas of the painting. All comments are welcome!!

Very cool stuff!

Lillian, I agree with the thoughts on the buildings bricks... that's is an amazing treatment of them.. The left hand building especially is well done... And the perspective looks spot on to me... Very nice!

Dejaa, everyone's welcome that's painting in acrylics... that's what's nice about this place. :D Nice work on the balloon.. The glow is well done.

Wendy, that's cool! I think I see the violin, but I'll likely sit here and stare at it more later. Also love the play on words with it.

Bret, interesting thought for the background... can't wait to see how it looks... good layout so far...

eyepaint, All I can say is I'm interested to see where this goes. The colors are nice...

Paul, can't wait to see more work on this... the dragon is looking good!

Linda, Hummingbird! Very pretty.. Waiting for the update pic. :D

Steve, pallette knives? Wow... that's not all done with pallette knives, though, right? I love the scene... I can just see her dreaming of something in that window. heh

Nothing to show at the moment... I just woke up. :o

Here's a reference of the photo I took from my garden, and used for the painting.
It is my biggest project yet 14x18, and is quite a challenge. Enjoying it!
I keep coming back to it to see what can be improved.
I wanted to give this flower vitality, and richness of the reds found in geranium.
It's a painting of a macro geranium found in my garden every year. I still have a long ways to go.I am quite satisfied with the flower, and the leaf on the right. I muted some of the leaf as it was more in the shade; but suggested some lights there.. a little dab of cad. red to draw the eyes back to the flower. Throughout the painting I used dabs of red to draw the eyes back to the main focus of the flower.
I am still working on the rim of container. As the rim comes down from the left to right I feel it needs to be adjusted a little. I think it may be to wide, and should narrow it to suggest height.
If you have any suggestions please feel free.

Thank you
