May I use my own boots?

02-23-2008, 11:50 AM
Fookie- OF COURSE.... I posted the pictures for those poor souls who don't have any LOL....

I'm too fat for my boots now, but I love them so much I can't give them up. Actually, I've already painted them but sold the painting without taking a pic. Need the drawing practice anyway. I have a "cat stuffer" holding the boots upright.

Just for fun, and to demonstrate the "good breeding" stance:

Heidi Klumm got nothin' on him!!

02-23-2008, 12:15 PM
Fookie- that is just adorable... I have never seen boots for dogs!!

I tried putting rubber boots on my basset hound... to keep him from getting stickers... but he really hated them and kept getting them off.... he made a strange flapping sound- like a scuba diver on land...and walked really goofy because he did not know what to make of them!! He likes his 'harley davidson' cap much better!

02-23-2008, 12:26 PM
OMG! Linda, you gots yourself some fine looking footie-ware there. I'm not a fan of cowboy boots, but your collection could change my mind. As you can guess -- cowboy boots are not very functional for shoveling snow.

Fookie -- that photo of Shim absolutely CRACKS ME UP. What a good sport he is.

I'm hopeless at committing to challenges -- but that doesn't mean that I don't end up doing them... anything is possible.

02-23-2008, 02:10 PM
I love this idea..I'll give it a whirl...!
Love your boots.

02-23-2008, 03:50 PM
Deb- you actually COULD shovel snow in the last non-slip pair...

Tina- YIPPIE.... can't wait to see them... nice to see your smiling face...

aaaahhh, Deb, wore out the soles of my boots when I lived in Minnesota, had them resoled several times. My dad up in Hibbing always wore cowboy boots. You gotta get committed, girl!

Linda, Shim won't walk in those boots--they have a velcro around the ankle so he can't get them off, otherwise they'd be on the ground. Can't ya tell how upset he is--hates them!! Hates the Harley hat too, and shakes it off. Can't get off the jacket though.

Linda, Love your boots!

I did a painting with my husband's cowboy boot a few years ago. May I PM that to you?

This is a great idea and will be fun to see what people come up with. I love the character cowboy boots have!

02-24-2008, 02:43 AM
nice boots! I would like to paint them all in a row... I don't own any myself.

02-24-2008, 02:29 PM
Hi y'all.... you may paint any boots any way you like!!!

I do love boots....there is a pear with a leopard skin pattern I am dying for LOL... my husband seems to think I have enough... but I tell him they are my painting models and a lot cheaper than the hourly 'modeling' fee of a live model.... he is not buying it....

02-24-2008, 03:15 PM

That is so cute, he looks just like my pomeranian... I don't have any boots either.

02-24-2008, 07:44 PM
Fookie!!!  Shim is ADORABLE in his boots!

Well, I'm not much of a cowgirl, but I'll see if I can give this a whirl.

Thanks Linda for coming up with such a unique idea.

I am thinking that with my memory and ability to delete all the important stuff when my mailbox is full.... I should just post these straight in- or you guys can...

here is a wonderful painting by Ms. Gee of her husband's cowboy boot with wild flowers from their yard!!!

02-24-2008, 08:50 PM
And here is one I tried...

02-27-2008, 12:26 AM

Spritey, love yours too! You guys are doing such a wonderful job! I'm afraid I don't yet have the time or enthusiasm to look at paints. But when I do, cowboy boots it will be.

02-29-2008, 03:46 PM
Fookie- those are terrific boots... in fact, are those 'Old Gringo' brand boots??? Our cats like to hide in boots too...

Sprite- that is totally terrific.... and I do think those are my very favorite pair... love the turquise... I tried to paint those too and had to toss it...

Patty, your boots are really well done, and I love the background.

Yours too, Becky, but I wouldn't want to walk even as far as the door in them.

02-29-2008, 03:56 PM
you guys both reminded me of this shot- I am still miffed the kitten jumped out by the time I found the camera!!

Becky-Bob- it is always better to paint a boot than to get the boot LOL...

Hi ya'll!

Linda, thanks for posting "Cowboy Bouquet" for me. If anyone's curious, the painting's 8x10 but I couldn't tell you what paper I used. The paints were a mixture of student grade and WN.

Linda, Becky & Patty, thanks for the nice comments.

Fookie, Patty & Linda, your paintings are great. I just love the colors of turquoise and brown together. Two of my favorites!

03-01-2008, 06:51 AM
Hi I am in on this. Have never seen so many boots only a line dancing demos. I love the shape of these. The only boots I have are a pair of wellies in bright blue.

03-01-2008, 06:52 AM
Linda is this a case of puss in boots. Ha ha

I was looking in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. There was a full page ad of a pretty woman--waist up--she was wearing a wool blazer and a gorgeous lace blouse. Inset had a pic of these boots, and my heart melted. I called the Texas Boot Company 800#, found the only realtor (about 25 miles away). Called 'em, he had my size, borrowed $50 (the cost) from a friend and bought them. I've had these boots 25 years, even found a lace blouse. Wore them just about everywhere.

The cat inserter is to hold them straight--it's vintage, and still has the original tag.

Everyone's boots are so much fun, I might grab a pair of Linda's to paint.

03-01-2008, 12:12 PM
Gill- I have heard of your 'wellies' all my life- but don't know WHAT they look like... perhaps you can post the great WELLIE challenge LOL... can't wait to see how an englishman paints cowboy boots...

Fookie- oh, I am jealous...now- about the vintage cat boot holder- have never heard of that...

a friend of mine said when his wife inherited some money, she bought TONS of pairs of cowboy boots... and after she died she still had about 20 pair with the TAGS on them...unworn...

here is my favorite boot store- and you CAN shop online....

03-01-2008, 02:26 PM
Well here are my blue wellies.
Also here is my picture of your boots.

03-01-2008, 02:32 PM
Hey Gill!! Those boots look familiar!! :D Glad to see someone else's take on them. You did a good job! Love those "wellies" too! Look great for being out in the rain in, which is their purpose I believe. :)

Ohh Linda....those orange boots with the white flowers...to die for!

Fookie...glad you explained about the cat..I was wondering about it's shape. Cool!

03-01-2008, 03:09 PM
Mainly splashing in the puddles with my grandchildren. Ha ha

03-01-2008, 03:27 PM
Gill- well, since you get RAIN and we get cactus and rattlesnakes.... I guess we better not swap....

your painting is terrific!!!!! yahooooooo

03-01-2008, 11:25 PM
I did this some time ago from a picture in the reference library, so my apologies for not remembering the source.

Uploading from this computer never works

03-02-2008, 12:34 PM
Tammy- those are terrific boots!!! And I LOVE the wood grain on your chair, walls, etc. Thanks so much for joining in!

03-08-2008, 12:57 PM
Just a reminder- ya'll have till the 14th of March to get yore boots on..... why the 14th? because that is when we are going off to the backyard to hear Willie Nelson for his 75th birthday....

Shirl Parker
03-08-2008, 02:32 PM
I have Willie's "On the Road Again" as the ringtone on my cell phone. I never want to answer when it's ringing.

03-08-2008, 05:55 PM
Shirl- too funny- I had no idea you could get Willie for your phone... will have to ask #1 daughter about that when she makes it back from the rodeo...

03-09-2008, 09:39 AM
Looks like everyone is having a ball with this challenge...great paintings. count me in also.

03-09-2008, 02:36 PM

Linda -
I'm gonna try a pair of your boots - you lucky gal- but I'll never be done by March 14.

This brought back memories for me. One Christmas - I was 8 or 9 - and the only thing I wanted was a pair of cowgirl boots. My oldest brother and his wife held off buying my gift until the day after Christmas so they could take me to the next town where there were actually shoe stores to get my boots. We went to every shoe store, farm store, western wear store and couldn't find a pair that fit me. I can still remember the disappointment. I was near tears when they took me back home.

I think that I'm gonna get me some next check I get.

03-09-2008, 10:00 PM
Carole- well we will be happy when yore boot painting when it does arrive here....

I am near tears (really) over that sad story....it really is terrible to be that age and have your heart set on something but not get it!! I think that is why I buy so dadgumed much stuff today....

I had the whole Dale Evens thing as a kid- fake boots (I think I actually used my go-go boots), red skirt, vest and hat, cap guns... I tried to teach the cat to track horned toads...

03-11-2008, 12:01 PM
Would you Just Look at Them Boots!!

But you might wanta put on your shades first . . . . . .

Thanks, Linda, for the inspiration! I took the photo into Photoshop and
distorted it. I then did a purple underpainting for the shaping and some of
the shadows. I think I managed to use just about every pro paintmaker out
there - M.Graham, Daniel Smith, W&N, Holbein, Sennelier! This is the first
thing I've painted since a recent death in the family and it felt so good just
to let go with the color and play! Thanks for lookin'!!

Paper: Arches 140 lb. CP
Paints: see above
Size: 10" x13"

03-11-2008, 12:27 PM
wow Emme!!!! Those are too cool....LOVE your colors... and wow those toes really are pointed.... so happy you are back to painting... it is very very hard to find the 'joy' after a family death to get 'back in the saddle'... so very sorry for your loss...

I have never used photoshop much...in fact I had it many years (and many computers) ago...but never figured it out!!

03-11-2008, 12:43 PM
Thanks, Linda! And thanks for your kind words.

Photoshop is one of those really awesome tools that you never find the
bottom of, the top of or the end of! And it's also difficult to pick up without
someone to help you get the basics down (IMO). Once you do though, you
find it hard to live without it (again, IMO). ~ Em

03-12-2008, 01:48 AM
Just want to say I am enjoying seeing all these boots. Wish I could join in but am up in Colorado taking care of my daughter who had a stroke. Have been really busy, but maybe in a few months I can do a little painting. Things are looking up now, many more therapy sessions for her, but great improvement. Keep those boots coming. Your all doing a great job on the paintings. Keep having fun.........Lenore

03-12-2008, 02:00 AM
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/23-Feb-2008/16729-shim-boots2.jpgYee-haw! Too cute! My huskies have boots too... but not cowboy boots ;) ) Fun challenge!

03-12-2008, 03:55 PM
Lenore- oh how horrible for your daughter and you of course... how sad... sure do hope she is feeling better soon... I wonder if you draw things out very large for her and get her some paint if painting could be something that she might use to get back on the road to recovery? I have no idea how bad she is of course... but it seems like painting is very meditative...

someone recommended coloring those mandella coloring books for my daughter to fight anxiety... they would be too detailed I am sure for a stroke victim, but you could draw something large and colorful perhaps...

hang in there...

03-12-2008, 04:05 PM
Emme..I love your take on them there Cowboy boots!!! Love that pointed toe! LOL

This is definitely a fun challenge....isn't Shim cute in his cowboy booties? I may have to paint him in his boots. You need to get him a hat to with the ensemble Fookie!!

Lenore..sorry to hear about your daughter, but glad she is making steady progress!!

03-12-2008, 05:47 PM
Sprite- would love to see you paint Shim...

and Fookie- that is a beautiful tile floor- it has those fancy little designs in the corners- wow - I love that... what sort is it?

03-12-2008, 06:23 PM
Thanks Greg, Grace and Patty! Pointed, very pointed, cowboy boots around
here used to be a running joke (of the sort not mentioned in polite
company). This was kind of my own nod towards outgrowing the old high
school humor! ~ Emme

03-12-2008, 09:31 PM
Well Emme- that purple background is too cool - goes with it perfectly....

and do you guys know WHY pointed toes boots are really good??? huh huh do ya??? They are terrific for squashing scorpions who are in a CORNER...this I know for a fact....

03-12-2008, 10:11 PM
We don't have many scorpions in Florida so they have a good reputation for
squashing another kind of critter (roaches and palmetto bugs)!!

Sorry, hope this doesn't gross anyone out!

~ Emme

03-12-2008, 10:39 PM

Silly me..... I always thought it was so you could get your foot in the stirrup faster...  What do I know??? :D

Emme, your boot painting is terrific...

03-12-2008, 11:05 PM
Well Emilie, that would be ONE reason :D but trust me I get much more mileage out of mine squashing scorpions... I gave up riding horses a couple of years ago when we sold ours.

And this JUST IN from Linn (bchlvr) over in Virginia...

and it is a stunning one I might add.... the background is like a postcard- super!!! and there are my very favorite boots - to boot!

and guess what I saw at Hobby Lobby today??? Matted prints of watercolored cowboy boots- well, one boot- and you guys did SUCH a better job I think....

03-13-2008, 11:26 PM
Thank you Linda!

(By the way...I really like your cake recipe!)

Hi!!!!! Sprito, do paint Shim, what Fun!
Linda, that's a porcelain tile floor--the old-timers think it is "too busy". Sigh...
My boots got rounded toes so I can get a quick start when the boys chase me.
Emme, I LOVE your painting--too cool boots--be very cool on a t-shirt, can I steal your reference? I'd like the b/g to be all-inclusive.
I did more work on my boot...intensified everything, especially the b/g. Then turned it over and painted something else on the reverse--it's only paper.

03-22-2008, 11:35 AM
Boots with a view...... Wonderful.... love the scene...

03-22-2008, 01:24 PM
Well... this thread Lost Tina's (Pasta's) Boot painting....

And Greg's (gidd_up's) oil boot painting- that was done- not for sale- but as a study from another painting....
