This is my second acrylic painting....and although I liked the idea....I am having problems adjusting my use of colour, as the acrylic seems to dry a much darker shade. Anyway, this is a windy day on Lake Ontario, and the beach was strewn with seaweed.

Beautiful beaches, everyone. I'd love to participate, but Kansas is pretty landlocked. :)

Maybe I can dig out old photos of when I in Antibes, France and do that. Until then, I'll just look at everyone's art and dream I'm somewhere in the sand and sun. :D

Gosh, this was a great project, It is such a diverse set of images and colors. I think everyone did such a great job. The gallery of finished projects has got amazing stuff. I'm so glad I got to participate and thanks everyone who commented on my Seaside beach painting.

I am lucky enough to live 45 mins either way from the ocean or the mountains. (just a little spoiled)

Hey Eileen, we're NOT talking freezing here you know!!!:D
OUr temps are still running at 15 C or 60 F here, TeAnne will probably have temps in the 70's still!!! (20C) you wouldn't mind being there in winter...
I'm going over to Aussie's Tropical North in about 3 weeks...the temps will be well over 70....prob 10 degrees higher...
I can't wait...not going near Coolum though, so won't meet JulieB this time round...:crying: WOW this beach painting is Fabulous!!!!

Gosh, what do I know????? :D TeAnne was just saying how cold it's getting there. So there's no snow in Australia?  ;)

gnu
07-02-2002, 06:33 PM
Oh Yeah, great skiing in the snowy mountains!! prob a lot of other places too, but lower latitide generally than Te, and higher altitude also :D :D But MOST of Australia is HO-O-O-O-O-O-T ouch ouch!!!! Te lives at a latitude higher than the tip of NZ, they pretty much have temperate/sub tropical temps there in NZ....
anyway Te can be a lot more accurate than I about where she lives...must visit there one day...

Hope you have a great time in the north...In cairns it was about 28 degrees c in the summer its too hot to stand on the beach or stay out in the sun for too long...winter is beautiful...and you get a nice winter tan too...no stingers that time either..

It gets pretty cold where Teanne is...she gets alot of the westerly winds off the ocean...Australia gets hit with westerleys this time of year...it is so much colder over in Perth...and even down the southern end of Australia like Tasmania, Melbourne, Sydney...
In coolum we are having 5 degree nights at the moment and colder days between 15 to 19 degrees..with westerley winds off the land which isn't as cold as westerleys off the ocean. Perth is a fairly windy place...great for yachting...but im sure Teanne could tell you more about that one..since I haven't been to perth yet..
It snows down the southern end of Aussie and sometimes in parts of queensland depending where, the more southern the more colder...sking is great down at thredbo in victoria and also near the blue mountains in sydney...no snow here though
Coolum Beach is facing east and we get flat seas this time of year and hardly any surf...depending on wind direction

You got it...its not as bad with the air out of the tyres (down to 20) but people really churn up the tracks with their tyres especially over at Frazer because the air isn't let out and then they bog and hold up all the traffic...

You were pretty well spot on here Julie. It's been 4-5 C over night lately brrrrrrrrrr and the rain hasn't let up yet. The wind has been quite violent. On Friday night it blew such a gale that some parts of Perth still have now power in their homes. (It's Sunday morn here now) Yesterday was 17C with patchy rain brrrrrrrrr.
Thanks for comments on my painting. It is of Esperence down south of Perth. The day actually did look that colour. Surprisingly it wasn't that cold.

Hello,

I have just joined the community and came across this project. I loved the entries. Since it had no end date, I thought I would add one of my own. It is a small wall hanging of a scene from Cumberland Island, Georgia, USA. I use the term beach loosely because it is more marsh than beach, but looks out onto an smaller island beach then the mainland beach.

This was my first attempt to translate a scene into fabric and began my stretch into wider fiber explorations.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/Projects/browse_final_entries.php?proj_id=226

I have also posted a photograph I took of the scene in the project in-progress file.

Hi Cindy and welcome to WC. I just clicked on the url you provided here and up came, guess what? My entry! Sunset at Morro Bay. Plus it's in the "My Projects" channel. I'd have thought I'd be the only one to have access to that. Don't know how that happened. Will you correct your url? :) I'm off now to find your actual entry.

Chris, methinks ScottB is up to his old tricks (or new tricks, as the case may be). Must mean he's not all that busy these days. :D

Cindy: Just scratch my prior message re: your url. Our fearless leader has quite a mischievous streak, which shows itself when you least expect it. ;)

I don't think I have commented on this one..But I want to paint an ocean like this soon and we have lots of cliff faces like this to paint from, I love all the colours mixed in the water to make this look like the white wash and the little island sticking up with some trees, this looks like oils to me the strokes are great :D

Hi Julie
Thanks for your kind words!! Yes it is oil and I used a palette knife for the rocks cliffs etc. I am having a hard time with watercolours though and will be going for my 4th set of beginner lessons in September !!

Thank you Julie and cjpaints for your comments and encouragement. I have posted a final version (won't necessarily be THE final version), but I'm having problems seeing some JPEG/GIF pictures on my computer at the moment - I'm hoping that at least one of my attempts (I tried to upload it twice) has succeeded.

Thank you again - I enjoyed this project, even though it took me so long, and I'm thinking of signing up for another now.

Thanks to all who commented on my Negril sunset painting, I really do appreciate all the feedback. In response to how it was done......a LOT of blending with a clean wet brush. That's how I paint just about everything, I find it works best for creating smooth edges and realistic surfaces.

LOL This project finally gave me the push I needed to get down to painting it. I'm not happy with some of the reflections on the beach....but overall I'm content with this one. This is marvelous!!!!! I live in rainy Washington state and rarely do I see a painting of rain that I truly would like to have in my home (what with having plenty of windows of rain scenes, whether I want them or not). Your use of pastels in this is unsurpassed. (green with envy) Again.....WOW!

This is fabulous indieman!! I can only hope that I can paint beaches like this one day, reminds me of my home town at Redcliffe, where it is surrounded mainly by still water, but they do alot of sailing and sail boarding and the heads are similar. :p
