Wallis sandpaper, 12x18" (Check my blog to see a larger image of this one.)

My class demonstration today using GIANT Senneliers. I was showing how the scale of strokes can be effective... and did a 4x6" painting of the same area to contrast the small and large strokes (but it sold, so I can't show it!)

Hope you like it.

Thanks Scott and Tom! I had forgotten how much fun it was to use those big clunky pastels to get the looseness. Glad you like it.

This is beautiful Deborah, and I adore the sky. Colors are wonderful. I can feel this place.

Very nice! Absolutely great sky!

I am constantly learning from everything you post. Thanks so much. I love how you repeat hints of the peachy color in the land area. I also like the effect of the bush as it rises above the horizon, lighter almost translucent. And of course you are the master of clouds. I wake each morning to glorious sunrises and just itch to paint them...alas I must get ready for work... One of these days.

Thank you!

Thanks Shari. It was a nice summer morning. I could use a bit of summer right now!

Don, thanks!

Carol, memorize those sunrises. I always take mental notes, literally sometimes saying things out loud so I won't forget. Glad you like it!

Thanks, Violet.

Deborah, this is lovely. The sky, the land - the colors bring them together but they also each stand on their own. It is gorgeous.

Deborah, you Wowed me with the Flowers, now this Landscape Wowed me. Well done!

it's a marvelous painting considering you used those 'big' Sennies on a smaller sheet of paper - those clouds are to die for - I love the big Sennies but always work large with them - you have really mastered there control! Absolutely, a beautiful painting - you're amazing, each painting you post is more outstanding then the previous one! Truly wonderful work - wish I could take a lesson!

I saw those HUGE Senneliers in the art store when I bought my first set of half sticks the other day. I remember thinking "WHAT FUN" ... I can't wait to be able to buy some!!!

YOUR PAINTING IS GORGEOUS. I particularly am drawn to that incredible sky!!

Very lovely colours! It feels like an unexpected combo, the warm rosy spots on the way cool grayed greens in the foreground. And the sky is fabulous!

Beautiful, beautiful,beautiful! Fabulous clouds.

02-22-2008, 01:26 PM

Jon, thanks--wowed ya, huh? That pleases me... :)

Oh, Susan, if you can get the giant Sennies I'd say go for it. It helped to loosen me up so much. On a 'small' piece of paper like this 12x18" they seem clunky and huge, which is fun but challenging. However, on a BIG sheet of paper they're smashing to use!

Thanks, Charlie, I like that combination, too. Warm/cool is my big challenge right now!

Diana, I'm so glad you like the clouds! :D

Thanks Cindy.

Deb, thanks so much. It's a current favorite of mine, too...but we always aspire to the next one, don't we? Just something built into us, I guess: creativity!

Wow Deborah this is so beautiful!!! I love everything about it. The whole painting was done with just the big sennies? It's fantastic!

02-22-2008, 06:27 PM
Just gorgious!

A fairly simple subject done magnificently. So all I can say is that it's... simply magnificent!

Todd, that's sweet to hear. Always nice to bless people!

Yep, all big Sennies, Karen. I admit that there were a couple of chunks that were only the size of a white plastic eraser. Thanks...

Thanks, T!
