I mainly work in oils as I've struggled with acrylics because they dry so fast I can't work them for very long as far as moving the paint around. Need some advice on that!
Here's one I painted of my cat, Girl, who takes but doesn't give much love hence the partial heart.:cat: It is 9 x 12 on oil painting paper.
Any and all advice would be most helpful. Thanks

I have a atomizer water bottle that I spritz my pallet with from time to time. Though, I often forget to use it.
The painting is very sweet. That little cat's got some attitude. :) Great pose and perspective.

Linda, thanks so much for commenting, I'll try the water bottle spritz approach.

Cute kitty. Is she a young cat? Looks like you're getting a handle on acrylics. In time you may learn to take advantage of the quick drying time and learn new techniques.

Thank you Lavenderfrost for your comments. I'll keep trying with acrylics. No, she's about 12 years old.

how cute, only part of a heart! I agree ith Lavenderfrost, I work in oils, acrylics and watercolors. Each medium has different applications and you really need to just experiment. The water helps and so do some mediums that retard the drying process. But you will still have to get use to working with the different medium. SOoooo, keep up the painting and enjoy!

Loobyteacher, thanks for commenting and adding to what the other lady said about acylics. I'm going to look for something to add to my paints to keep them from drying out and extending the drying time as well. :cat:

Ive only experimented with oils a few times, the drying time to me is exasperating! I LIKE working quickly and having the scene unfold before me and being able to work over areas just laid down with little loss of time really works for my style.
You've chosen a fairly difficult subject to tackle for a beginning in the medium but you pulled it off very well

I too use the spritz bottle to extend the blending time, and sometimes on the cat. With the exception of large blocks of color I mostly use glazes. I have not had good luck with gel extenders.
You've made a good start.
