My family has recoved from the flu and I have put the house back together as much as possbile (keeping in my your advise from an earlier post re: housework )

So here is my WIP fiber/ paper collage. Keep in mind this is my first of this kind. :) Keep in mind too that I have promised it to the community center to hang on their large fireplace! LOL!

this is large -- 40 inches by maybe 48 inches. I'll need to measure but thats pretty close. I have laid down different fabric because I initially wanted to use the batting for snow cover. Now I am not sure if it needs more color. The tree is made from watercolor paper and watercolor/oil pastels. I may use this beautiful yarn to give more texture.

On the yellow fabric I want to use roving and string from the burlap backing to represent the rows in the farm fields. The roving will go thru the paper and burlap with a very large needle so I will sew it on in big chunky swipes.

So my question: Do I add the green for the forefront or keep the batting for snow over? Is the snow too bland? http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/03-Feb-2008/50520-DSCF0626.jpg The sky will (at this point) be the grey background and torn pieces of the blue paper along the horizon.

Any ideas, suggestions, comments CC is very welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

I've been switching back and forth, looking at the original pic you posted on the other thread, and it's looking good so far!

I would opine to keep the snow as in the original, and then add the tree and limb shadows.

I think the tree's really gonna pop when you add the yarn!

Can't wait to see the rest, keep posting!

That darn flu's got us over here too.

Here's your pic.

Here's an update.

I really enjoyed the roving and kind of chunky yarn to use to make rows in the farm fields so this is the beginning of that. I only have the row closest to the foreground started. I used fabric sticks which are like oil pastels to bring some more color along the rows in the farm field. As you can see I am deviating from the reference photo. The area at the horizon line is not in place. I am moving things around to play with placement etc. I do like the area where I cut thru the batting and the burlap is showing thru at the base of the tree. I think I will probably do more of that somewhere. I also will be using threads from the burlap and some yarn to give texture to the tree. I likely will raise the tree up off the surface with foam board. Any comments, CC is welcomed.
