Hi all. New to this forum - Laura suggested I check it out and it looks awesome. Anyway, we've had many requests to post a picture of Renee's necklace made with the "john thomas" bead exchange beads, so here it is. Wonder if I should use the "sexually explicit" icon - oh, heck, why not? I bet more people look at it then...;)

Enjoy, and post what you think! Beth (B2)

Here it is!

It is a fun necklace, my bead is the one that is on the right near the top that is clear with red veins <grin>

Gosh, how ummmmmm.... interesting! I love all the color combinations, I like glass beads although I never wear jewelry. Tiny pieces of art, they really are...

My children think they are kewl "bug" beads,
LOL, not from any influence on my part.

I find them very uplifting and like my children see only Art.

This is part of an e-mail I sent to Renee about all the trouble she had posting a warning and a link to this image.
" I looked. I looked again. I was shocked! I printed a copy to show my 'listen to Christian music' ' ALL DAY GIRL FRIEND' and she laughed. After telling her some of the background as to how children etc. and (PTA) members may see this on the bead forum, she laughed again, She said: "like what kid was going to search the bead forum for such stuff."
I told my girlfriend she should post this by the time clock at work where here employer likes to post, do not do this type stuff. The better half said what should it say... "do not peter your time away".

You know I probably will get myself in trouble for saying this but those of you who know the whole story on this topic will understand. Since when is a Necklace (with Penii or a Goddess) Sexually Explicit? I don't get that part? I know enough about law and reality to know that is not Sexually Explicit at all, isn't and never was....

LOL!

That's nothing. Last fall, we had a glassblower at the shop who did a life-size glass, um, marital aid. It was realistic to the point of having "veins" in it.

You would not believe how many inquiries we got about purchasing it. Sheesh. :o

Heidi Broderson just recently posted one of those on ebay, it had a flower on the tip hehe, very pretty too!

She has a good story to tell about it, she took it to her beauty salon and it has all the ladies stamp of approval (don't have a naughty mind everyone!) hehe

Laura

Yep, I saw Heidi's, uh, recent unique auction, and it was quite lovely. Maybe the flower at the tip thing would fit into the "Duality of Man" category...just a thought...:o

I have heard about those being sold for big bucks on web sites, it is supposed to be the big hot thing right now (no naughty minds, I am sorry but it just comes out like that, I really don't mean to say things like that!). Anyway (after I stop turning red), I have heard something like 500.00 a piece for them!

Bringing this back to the top.
For those of you who haven't voted in this poll yet, would you please consider doing so?

Doesn't matter if you aesthetically like the piece or not, the question is: "Is this 'sexually explicit'?"

To me, that means something that should be banned from minors seeing it. Rated X, like porn movies. YMMV.

Thank you so much, folks. Your vote means a lot to me!

I must admit that I am curious about Heidi's piece. I tried to search on Ebay but there is a regulation that says Adult Categories cannot be viewed outside the US !!
A friend of mine has been trying to talk me into doing that for some time.... but my sculpting skills are not up to the task, if I can say so ;)

The poll is at the top of this page, it is whether the necklace is sexually explicit.

The Necklace link was removed from the ISGB forum because it was deemed Sexually Explicit.

Finally I am able to see the 'controversial' photo which caused such a stir on the ISGB forum. I wouldn't wear it as a necklace myself, but I appreciate a forum which allows us to view it and make our own decisions. Thanks B2 and Laura for sharing this with us! Val

Ahhh. here we go again ISGB banning beads. Instead of calling it art. I'll keep quiet, let someone else voice an opinion.

Richard - what was particularly bizarre about this situation was the picture of the necklace never actually appeared on the forum - just a link to an external site that showed the picture. It was very, very odd and in my opinion they made an incorrect call. Specifically, they cited the rule that says something about no explicit pictures ON the forum. Well, that was never violated. Anyway, I submitted a request for the post to be reinstated and for a formal review and response by the board. Unfortunately, I've heard nothing back. C'est la vie...

Yikes, it's the dreaded & highly feared necklace! Run & hide!!!...protect your children!!

Actually, I was one of the lucky few who saw the original post & link of Renee's. I was wondering how soon it would take to get pulled. I just had a feeling that unfortunately it would happen, & I was right!

That's why I think this is a great place, where we don't have to worry about such constraints. I still enjoy the other forum, but there are some conservative elements in there that I was never too comfortable around. Also a lot more politics, which in my opinion only leads to trouble. Hopefully things will change for the better there though.

I'm very happy that Laura has led us over here. I really think I will benefit greatly, as I haven't been expressing my creative side too much lately. All of this wonderful inspiration all over WC are bound to inspire in some way or another!

Hopefully the firecrackers have about run their course so that poor miz doggie can stop pacing & worrying (herself & us!). Night all!

Nice to be here - very interesting place! Today is a torch day for me - yay! So I'm gonna go fire it up, and maybe even try a crackle bead. I've got a huge inventory list I have to tackle, so I'll probably disappear for awhile. But be afraid... I'll be back! ;)

I feel like such an instigator...or perhaps, to the ISGB, a revolutionary!

I tried to start a discussion of masculine art on the Forum, but it didn't go anywhere. We also couldn't seem to get a discussion of why naked women are ok, but naked men aren't. Pretty disappointing.....

I have to add, for the record, that I heard about the glass sex toys from my 60-year-old mother, a Sunday School teacher, who once told me she'd never even heard the WORD "penis" until she was in High School! But she was more than happy to tell me about new opportunities to sell my work.

Ah Laura! Lucky you to have a Grandmother! I have to say I envy you big time! She sounds like one interesting lady to be sure! Spend all the time you can with her, it is one of the most precious things you have. I seriously wish I had been older when my grandparents were still alive. They had to much to teach me and give.

I am the one with intigator in the title hehe, I started this forum so we could talk! and share! hehe

Laura you should start a thread on the Masculine art form here! It would be interesting to talk about it.

Got in this discussion once with a 20 year old college boy that worked in our Physical Therapy dept. at the hospital where I work. It was quite interesting. He loved to come to the floor where I worked, he'd never met "such a bunch of women" in his life, he said. 8 or 9 of the nurses would get with him in our Dr. dictating room and spend all kinds of time on things like male vs. female physique, premarital sex, and so on and so on. He had a liberal spirit, friendly, washboard abdomen, nice broad shoulders, cute as heck but didn't know it. Wish I'd known him when I was younger, if you know what I mean!

I am glad that I am not the only one that makes penis beads.......after reading some of the discussion on the isgb forum, I was wondering if all glass bead makers were, um, prudish.......didn't seem to fit the glassworkers I had met ( we have a good friend from Northern CA that makes those glass marital aids and has been know to make a pipe in the form of a naked woman)
I have been known to immortalize the male form in glass from time to time and have a store that wants to buy some from me.

I have decided that my 3 children (ages 5 and under) probably have more knowledge about the human body and how it works than most grown men do! or womyn for that matter!

Not only would I wear the necklace (even here in ultra conservative Idaho), I would probably have to whine at anyone who gave me a hard time about wearing it. But then... my 3 year old still nurses so I am automatically in the "FREAK" category. My 20 month old is running about here in her birthday suit right now and I know at least one of my children is dressed with no undies on today. I am just wondering HOW can we (not meaning folks here at WC, just folks in general) be so uptight about our bodies! Whether you are a church going Christian who praises Jesus for life everyday, or a moon dancing Pagan (wink) who praises the Goddess for life, how can anyone look at these magical vessels and see anything but perfection?

My biggest question is... why were there not more un-circ'd ones? I am guessing more of a cross section of our population as a whole?

And how is a Goddess bead sexually explicit? That one is beyond me... I am lost there. Our society worries more about sex than they do about murder and violence.

Ok, stepping down from the soap box. Perhaps I will go join my little people in a dance around our May pole (ahem... also a sign of fertility via the penis).

Trying to think about how I could talk Rev into attempting a penis bead...

Lemonbalm,

Nicely said... that's something I have a hrd time with as well...
the Europeans have it right I think..
show the nudity on TV.. no problem: Violence.. big problem.
That makes a whole lot more sense to me.
Here's a godess vessel I did a while back. When I posted it on ebay, I got two separate outraged comments from ebayers.
I couldn't believe it.

Jennifer -

If I don't get my rear out of this office chair, I swear that will be an exact likeness of my butt!

I agree with you about Europe (and that's saying something because I am from the brutally cold state of MN and learned early to avoid being naked at any cost)

Hubby is from the UK and he thinks that Americans are a little "puritanical" at times. He watches nothing but HBO. Oh, and the Wings channel but that's a whole different disorder. I guess maybe the Puritans who came over here from Europe had very strong genes that passed on from generation to generation.

I like the John Thomas beads! I'm going to show the pic to hubby tonight. He needs a good laugh. He is really into the bathroom humor. Picture a cross between Austin Powers and Eeyore. That's my Mark!

b2beads

I, too, have to say I feel it's totally backwards - and destructive - for violence & murder to be barely considered PG-13 in movies, and anything about sex or the body is taboo and brings on outrage from everywhere. Jen's bead is case in point. I think that's absurd that eBayers were outraged. I am curious as to exactly "what" outraged them - a woman's body in general, or a less-than-socially-acceptable woman's form... Sometimes our society is so uptight and backwards that I'm stunned...

And as for whether or not kids really are "effected" by violence on TV and video games, anyone who says they aren't has not been around kids... I had lunch with the 14 yr old son and 11 yr old daughter of a friend. They argued like normal kids. Until they started playing a 007 video game. The usual "arguing" quickly escalated into pushing, shoving, bullying and resulted in the girl getting pushed down and crying to get her brother to stop. (Admittedly, she may have learned to "use" the tears a bit to her advantage). But her comment was insightful - "this always ends up happening when we play video games together - I hate it because he always hurts me."

Something to think about...

That was a terrible pun by the way. I thought it would be a little distasteful to make it, uh, life size.....so, I decided on a more "sellable" size....didn't want any guys to get intimidated or anything...
Allison

Wait...are you telling me that *wasn't* life size???

about seeing this thread appear again.
I am glad I looked because that goddess vessel is the most gorgeous I have ever seen. I love that she has a totally real body. If her boobs were pointing at the floor a little more, I would think she looks just like me! Jen, thanks for that lovely lady. Please do another and post her on ebay again so I can bid on her, or let me know how I can get one!!!

you have to forgive me for bumping it...

It appeared on the newsgroup rec.crafts.beads, because we were talking about a girl who made a mistake saying "dick" beads instead of "disk" beads, and another person put a link to here...but I am *so* glad, as this was a very fun convo!

So that is what all the fuss on ISBN was about?

Oh my....I was thinking there seemed to be a rather strong conservative leaning there! Glad I'm posting here now :)

I....uh....stumbled across those glass marital aids a while back...on www.naughtyglass.com

Amazing stuff! Can't believe how much people will pay, though!

Me, I think it's art. Not art I would personally wear...but I might keep it around the house for showing off to people with a good sense of humor (which all of my friends have to have-Rule #1).

And I wouldn't hide it from my kids :)

Thanks for pulling this up! Any other important dates us newbies should look up, so we can catch up here?

and then there are *these* marital aids...they, to me, are *truly* works of art. A lot of people, when they see them, don't realize what they could be used for right off the bat, this person does *wonderful* glass blowing...(pardon the pun):

www.mindysplace.com

Some of this goes up to $200!

Great thread! B2, Laura, thanks for getting it going. Motherbeads put it perfectly--so liberating. This forum is a fun place to be.
