So here is my first portrait/work of the year, "Glorious Day." It has taken more time to get it going than usual, as class as began once again. But I'm slowly getting there during ANY of my free-time. I've gotten basic colors started on the right and working my way left as I am left handed. When nearly completed, I will go back and put in details.

C&C welcome and encouraged. Thanks!

You seem to have the likeness coming along fine. Watch the sharpness to the chin as well as using too un natural colours in the eyes. Sometimes, it works well to start the eyes with monochromes and then add hints of the colours present in the iris, to keep them natural. This also can work well doign flesh tones. However, I realize you are at the very beginning. The hair and tie look terrific!

Hey guys, unfortuneately, I have to start COMPLETELY over with this portrait. I am so irritated by it, but I walked in only to find my cat had spilled a whole glass of soda pop onto the picture. Imagine the horror! Anyways, I will be starting over soon. Look for WIP once again!

That stinks!!!! I am sure you wanted to just scream. Sometimes, bad things turn into good things. Maybe your next attempt will be the masterpiece, you had in mind!

I was working on a commission; two dogs outside, large canvas -- big commission. I stepped away for a moment to find my daughter sitting sheepishly next to the canvas. When I asked her what was up, she said "Oh nothing... I just want to learn how to paint grass".

Well, I walked around the easel and almost died! She tried painting grass on my painting! I wanted to cry. Luckily, it was at the beginning of the painting and there were many layers left, to cover up her creativity.

So, good luck and please try again!
