This was drawn from a photo. I mostly do animal portraits, but wanted something more personal to display.

I think this is very nicely drawn, the expression is great. The fact that you have not drawn a neck or shoulders at all, coupled with the way there is so much empty space surrounding the portrait makes it look as if the head is just floating there. Adding at least a suggestion of neck/shoulders and cropping the image down a little might keep it from floating so much.
