View Full Version : House Wren (thanks Dave Slaughter)

Here is another bird I did based on a photo from Dave Slaughter in the RIL. I'm experimenting with different backgrounds in this painting. The shadow at the top center is from my easel and is not part of the painting. Also, I had to clip the edges of the painting off to comply with the upload sizing requirements.

This is really great! You may try to darken the background and highlite the bird more for a 'pop'. His little legs get lost against the light background here.
Nice job, I do agree with a darker BG next time but very nice work.

Sweet! What a nice piece!
Regarding the crop, if anything I'd consider cropping a bit off the top and a bit off the right so that there's more space by % on the left, getting the bird out of the middle and giving it somewhere to 'look' to, if you get what I mean. If you don't mind, this is what it would look like

Thanks for the comments. I do think that looks better, Patrick. I know nothing of how to crop a canvas painting. Do you take the canvas off the stretcher bars or crop it with a frame?
