X-post from Pastel and A&W, Pastel 1st attempt

Just because many of us only visit certain forums and this one is still a smidgen slow, I thought I'd post my very first attempt at pastels here too, sorry for those of you who have seen it else where...I'm most comfortable with Graphite and found pastels to be much more difficult then I anticipated...not to mention, I'm terrified of color!

Anyway, calling this Taking a Moment (to smell the flower) it's 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" on Bristol Vellum, alphacolor soft pastels.

This has charm, and welcome to the dusty world. I think you will find pastels easier on a different paper,however, bristol hasn't much tooth. Try one of the sanded varieties, such as le carte or colorfix or wallis. among papers Fabriano Tizana is a popular one.
