I had three hours to kill outdoors while the exterminators worked in the house so I painted my oriental poppies which are blooming their silly heads off. It's just a sketch but might have potential. I plan to darken the bottom some more where it's blue because I think it's too light as it is.

What do you think?

Although its just a 'sketch', there is a random garden feel that i love. Its full of life and vibrance. Can't wait till you have time to really develop it. Don't lose this one!

It's a lovely lively sketch,

I agree darkening the lower area would strengthen the painting,

You're really zooming along! Yes, I'd darken the bottom and finish it up with a few more contrasts on the flowers and I'd say you have a winner!

Poppies are such a cheery little flower!

Perhaps a bit more definition of the petals and light source ....Just talking a few strokes of highlights............al

I love plein aire...... everything looks so..so... so painterly, for lack of a better word. You've done an excellent job on choosing colors, and I love your layering. Excellent work. I also agree with Ivyleaf..... you are really zooming along. Keep on keeping on.;)

Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support. al22, I'll try to incorporate more definition when I darken the bottom. I just haven't gotten to it today yet. Had to work on getting more sheep food and hay today so it's been a busy day. :)

Thanks again everyone! It means a great deal to get advice and support here. :)

Nice composition,Variety of size and position. Moves out of the box! Great Work! Great color! Additional depth in lower quad will be desirable. Hope we see the changes when you finish.

I like poppies because they seem transparent, kinda like rice paper. The lower center one really looks transparent to me. I was going to say more 'light' high lights, but Al beat me to it.
Nice
