Sorry for my ignorance, but I have never heard of "Pan Pastels" until I came to this website. It seems that alot of people are using them here. Is it just a brand name or are they in pans like pan watercolors? You've got my curiousity up.

this website (http://www.panpastel.com/) should give you an idea of what pan pastels are, but basically it is very soft pastel that is contained in a pan and painted onto the support with sponge tools.
Take a look at this thread (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455375) to see what is possible with them.

Thanks WC for the info. They look like they could be very interesting to use. I guess the pastel manufacturers were looking for softer and softer pastels until they finally ended up with these! I have quickly browsed through the thread that Donna started. When I have more time, I will need to look at it more thoroughly.
