View Full Version : New digitals
Hi everybody! Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season :)
I'm in between moving my studio to the basement and it has been a month since I've painted anything  in the meantime I still have my computer...so I decided to continue my Existence series. Here are 5 new ones. The are all digital photmontages.

I have to agree. Excellent series of works. Very well thought out and executed. I am especially fond of the third one.
 Hi Florence and Minman! :D Thanks for looking

these are fantastic.
i have to say no 1.
purely because they remind me of two of my favourite contemporary artists (but they are in no way similar, which makes it all the more better to look at)

These are great!
My personal favorite being the second one.
Thanks Wilsonart and Postmodern schism. I'm happy to see that they all seem to be appealing. :D

Great,interesting imagery!
Particularily like the third one, high horizon, negative reflection and what looks like almost an embedded surface bottom.Very balanced arrangement of intriguing pictures.
What size/surface would you print out to?
Regards,
WildGoose/Chris
Hi Chris, they aren't that big. If I print them out at 300 DPI they will only measure 8x16 inches.
But I'm experimenting with textured surfaces created by applying gesso and molding paste on canvas then I can print out my images a bit bigger with less DPI (Like 200 DPI). The image doesn't have to be as crisp as a print because of the surface texture...and oh yeah...I plan to print them out on water decals to transfer them to the canvas and maybe I will add a few little touches of acrylic too...
So far I have printed out a test run of another digital I had and my canvases are drying with the gesso. I'll probably try tranfering the test to canvas tomorrow or Wenesday. I'll try to get some pictures on here if my idea is a success. ;)
Ok here's that test I was talking about. It's done on 2 canvases. The top one has a tranfer of one of my digital abstracts and the lower canvas is done in acrylic washes. It's not quite done yet but I thing it has potential.

You are definitely on fire. Your work translates well to digital. I'm in awe of your eye and execution. Great great images!
Smileawhyl :p thanks a bunch!
I have been pulling my hair out to find a way to combine both my digital and mixed media for so long now. :wink2:

hi Azyl,
i'm interested in your combination technique - could you explain it a little more? how do you transfer your printed digital image to canvas (without using decals)? do you just stick it on, or embed it into the ground - or do you project the image and paint it - or what?
i work with digital imagery as well as painting (oil paint) and have thought for some time it would be interesting to bring these two together.
Hi Lammergeier,
I print my image with an inkjet printer on "lazertran" paper. It's a water decal paper. So I take that and stick it on the canvas with acrylic medium. I think I could also print the image on inkjet paper or photo paper then spray a fixatif on it to protect the ink coating then just stick that to the canvas using acrylic gel.
But all that is if you are using water soluble paint like acrylic. For oil you can do the same technique as long as you only use the oil paint on top.

thanks for the info, Azyl :)
I worked on that experiment again and finished it.
Here it is at stage 2

...and below at it's final stage. The piece is a dyptich and measures 16x32 inches total. I decided to call it Pink Desire.

The final version became really very successful! I like the colours on the top and the textures at the bottom, too.
Thanks, I am quite pleased with it. I wish my pic was a bit better thow. because in real the layers peeking through is an added touch.

Hmmm you have a very nice thread going on here!
well executed came out great. i like how you combined traditional with digital.. any idea on the permanency of the digital transfer?

Should be ok with all the gel medium it has on top plus a coat or two of special UV varnish. But like anything else I wouldn't place it in direct sunlight.
 Thanks Clem, Jay & Time!
