This is my niece again. I have painted her a couple of times before. I am having a lot of fun with this one. Trying to stay loose and painterly. I have more work to do of course on this one - just thought I would ask for any input on proportions or color choices. Is comp o.k.?

Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Cathleen I hope you realize how magnificent this is. I just love the soft edges and rich colors. Not a single complaint and lots of praise.

Promise me you won't enter it into any competition I'm going to enter so I don't have to compete with it!!! LOL Barb

A lot of work to do? Unless your original painting looks drastically different from what is presented here, I'd say you are finished. Cathleen this is really lovely, and I agree with Barb - stay out of our competitions please!

This is absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would check with your reference is your niece's right arm (on our left). Something about the shadow there at the bend is not reading correctly to me. Every other inch is stunning!

Oh, this is gorgeous. You have really got the proportions correct. She appears to be a young girl lost in her own thoughts!

I loved the other portrait you did of her with the other girl, but I think this one is even better, if that's possible. Maybe just that you've caught her so perfectly.

Love, love, love it

Hi Cathleen,

You're approaching Bouguereau....or do your prefer Sargent ? :-)
Great work !

I think this is a very beautiful painting. As Don suggested, have a look at your niece's right arm...maybe soften up the line of the crease and I believe that might do it. It's so soft and lovely.

Hello Cathleen,

Beautiful painting. Emotional, thoughtful, and lovely color. Just a suggestion about her right arm that is in shadow. You have a beautiful cool shadow under her neck and on her chest, and when I squint my eyes, the warmth said arm really projects forward to me. It may very well be the color of my computer and not at all what is reality.

Just beautiful...

Thank you all!! I tryed to tone down that right arm as suggested - Thanks for the advice. Dak- I really liked your revision. I will go and look at that again. Here is my update.

This is a beautiful painting, her skin and hair are amazing. It's so sensitive I could look at it forever, thank you so much for sharing!

Yes, it's better! For some reason, the arm actually seemed to be bending back before - now it is fine! As someone who does figurative work, I can not tell you how beautiful this is! The subtlety in the flesh tones is outstanding. And the costume is out of this world!

Cathleen:
I was blown away by how great this painting is. Wonderful composition and excellent color choice. My only critique concerns the shadow on her right shoulder. It seems a bit harsh compared to the beautiful shadow areas you painted on her face. The edge seems too hard. The area seems too dark. The shadow edge on the costume seems softer and more realistic.

Thanks Alison, Don and Dave.
I will go back and check the shoulder. Are you meaning her left( our right)
??

Hi Cathleen:
I was talking about her right shoulder (our left).

How many times can you hear this....never too many times....it's stunning! Absolutely beautiful. Intentional series or not, all of these ballet paintings you have done are just so...I simply cannot find words to adequately express what I think. Incredible job and keep painting more of her!
