Chester the Molester (as he is affectionately called by the client).

It was hard to get him to stand still for more than a few seconds and I almost considered painting him on the move.

I painted this with a loose, limited value terra rosa/venetian red block-in which made it easy to get the drawing aspects right without the need for a line drawing:

Once that had dried overnight I was able to paint the final layer the next day (it felt a bit like icing a cake):

Oil on linen. 18"x20".

C&C welcome.

Simon--
Another success!! I love the background and the wisps of hair around Chester's ears--the colors are so bold. I'm sure the owner will be thrilled

Absolutely gorgeous. Your style fits his personality, I love your technique, colors, everything. His eyes are excellent! Would it be possible to see a closeup of those if it's not too much trouble?

Thanks for all the feedback. Here's a close-up of his eyes - this will be a little bigger than life-size on most monitors:

Heck Simon, I liked the underpainting and would gladly hang that, but the over painting is gorgeous!!

Outstanding work :-) He has a very intent look on his face, like maybe he wants a ride in the car or something. Love it!
