View Full Version : Toby...Tibetan Spaniel Portrait

This is the second Tibetan Spaniel I've done...they are very interesting little dogs. 11" x 14" on Canson with NuPastel, Terry Ludwig's and some Great American's along with some mystery pieces that snuck their way into my palette.
C&C welcome!

This is wonderful! I love how you were able to meld the background into the dog. You've given it a wispy flair. Wow, I am in awe.

Best of show for all breeds! This dog brings home the trophy!!!

Mike, this portrait reminds me of my old dog! Thanks so much for the memories :). What a great portrait.

I'm trying to get back into pastels and noticed that you use Canson - which side do you prefer for pastels? The smoother or rougher side? I can't see any obvious texture in this piece - I wanted to ask to make sure though.

All your work is so lovely. I am trying to do pastel portraits and spent some time on your site. Thank you for showing the possibilites of pastel. Not since Dega have I seen such great work, a sincere compliment.
You are truly talented. Andi

A MacDreamy dog, wow! (MacDreamy, ref to tv series) It has a nebulous quality, it is emerging out of the background in such a wonderful way, an almost supernatural feel to it. (Have you ever thought of making religious paintings?) Awed, as I usually am over your paintings. Thank you for showing this beauty.

Wow, Mike! This is wonderful. I love how you have melded the subject and the background. And the dog's expression is just perfect.

This is such a beautiful painting...I love everything about it, but what captures me the most is his sweet expression and moist eyes.

Mike, I really adore your painting of Toby! He looks a lot like our puppy, Gizmo, but she is a Pek-A-Pom.

Mike, love the painterly style and looseness of this painting. He looks so soft and the background colors blend so nicely.
