Hello again airheads!
This WIP was originally going to be an eagle on a skateboard but the customer needs to save some more $$$ for me to start so I'm doing a piece inspired by Paul / Jumpforjoy of a seascape and what might have a local pier as the subject. I'm just not sure yet because as i look at the piece as it stands I feel something grander than a pier as the subject. not sure what at this point but it's like a stick poking at me that I dont know where it poking from???? yah...so what! I'm a little out there. I guess you gotta be a little crazy to be in this business to begin with.
The picture shown is the pier in the reference photo but I really just wanted a smooth multi-transitional sunset to get a color reference from an here she is.

I started this by running painters tape (3" brown tape with 1" of it covered in a low tac adhesive) across about 1/3 of the canvas to achieve a nice horizon line. I first hit the triple gessoed and sanded canvas with some 203 opaque cotton candy blue for a light sky color. I then applied some 114 transparent phthalocyanine blue....(easier to spell than to pronounce) for the darker blue outer atmosphere area. Once happy with the blu placement I dove in with some 104 arilyde trans yellow across the horizon line and then went in with the 111 trans wheeler smoke with a smidge of 201 opaque titanium white to make some soft clouds. Now happy with the base clouds I came in with some 104 arylide yellow mixed with 1/8 by volume of 102 naphthol trans red for the orange hues needed. At this point I added in some 108 trans golden ochre for the finishing touches on the sky. I will be using all the same colors and a few different ones and mixtures for the sea-top portion but when I reference color next time i will only reference the primary color number and it's base and value.
Until my next installment,
