Here I go again with yet another Candy Apple piece. I swear I'm on a red kick... I also did some pomagranates in acrylic ... just loving painting the red for some reason. :)
This is done with unisons mostly and some Terrys.

Wow Melanie!! This must be soo impressive in person! These look delicious!!

Beautiful as usual Mel, might just be my eyes but the stick in the middle apple doesn't look quite right, with the shape of the apple as is it looks to me as if the stick should be tilted behind instead of straight up.

Thanks Mel... its actually right, they dont' always put those sticks in in line with the apples so its a bit of a deception. ;)

Another masterpiece. I don't know how you do it!

Geez--I just popped over to get a gander at "pastels forum", as I dabble in them now and then...
I don't think I would be able to accomplish this in any medium, let alone pastels. I'm awstruck, really!
(my signature thumbnail is a pastel piece.)

Are you making your own candy apples to use for a reference or do you purchase them and if so where do you get them? Perhaps you working from a reference photo...? I haven't seen a red candy apple in years - lots of caramel ones but not the shiny, crunchy, clear red ones.
Anyhow, your candy red paintings are spectacular especially with a dark backdrop - so dramatic!
Unlike you I would LOVE to bite into those overly sweet but ooohhhso good crunchy candy apples! :D

Two of my neighbours work for The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Co. and they make them themselves and then they give them to me--free :) I photograph them and use a combo of the photo and still life to get my work. :) This last crop I got to eat one, and I must say the experience was rather unsatisfying. I like the carmel ones a lot better but I dont' think they would make for quite so pretty a painting.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate makes the BEST candy apples!
I knew I liked your painting for more reasons than it is brilliantly done! The sugar is incredible. I want an apple NOW!

Amazing. How can you make dust into these juicy bits of art? Amazing. You must be a witch leftover from Halloween to wield such magic.
11-21-2007, 08:28 PM
Wow! Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory? Were' headed down for T-day and will pass one up at the Factory Outlet center. I'll have to pay homage to your work with one of those sticky, red, transparent looking candied apples! Yum!

Amazing work, Melanie! I just showed this to my husband and he could not believe this is a pastel. "But those apples are so shiny! How did she do that"? It must be nice to bowl people over with this kind of work!

Deliciously stunning! Amazing work Melanie!
