Both are great, but maybe the first is my favorite.
What program do you use? I have ps cs and have done a lot with layering and filters and such but haven't tried anything this realistic yet. What brushed do you use? Did you use a filter on the first one or is it just brush work? Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you for the comments

The works are done in a program called Studio artist.
There is both brush work and image operations in each of the pictures.

There is a lot of detail that the small size presented here can not show. The second does look much more painterly in full size.

A few years ago I treated myself to Cintiq 21 so I paint with stylus directly on the image plane. Truly a more natural way to create.

I remember seeing Synthetic Studio Artist online years ago but even until today it says to leave your email and they'll let you know when a windows version is available hehe. It looks like an interesting program though.

I have a Tablet PC and that's nice to work on too but lacks the power of a desktop (and overheats easily). Now I'm on the desktop with a tiny Wacom bamboo hehe (but I like this size anyway )

Both are very pleasing to the eye. I do like the drama of the first one more though. :)

Ah... good old Cape Cod. Have been there many times in my early years , I like the second one as it is more realistic. They are both very goood though.
