A quickie this week (like 2 hours isn't already a quickie  ).

I have been so busy on the weekends I haven't been able to do a WDE for a few weeks....so...this weekend I promised myself I would do something...no matter what !

This was about an hour and a bit...pastel pencil and some cheap pastels, on Kraft paper, about 9 X 12.

Really struggled with the beard..

Off to see your work now !

Nice - especially if it is under 2 hours! It reminds me of the ancient mariner!

Very very nice!!! Love his ruddy cheeks!! His skin is great!!! So quick, too!!!!

He also reminded me of an old seaman. You're struggle doesn't show Kate. He has great character and I love the beard and sense of mood.

You've got some wonderful detail--his beard, his nose, etc. I like his warm, cozy look.

Well worth the effort. Wonderful, rich, deep colors and marvelous work on the features, especially the eyes!

fantastic piece, especially for size and speed!!!!

Nicely done, from one who also tried this image. I love the depth and mood you created with your background. You've got so much color, yet its not garish. You also kept him old looking (he lost years with my handling) and you made him very interesting to look at -- really nice portrait!

What a glow you've captured in his face!! It looks like he's looking down into candle light! Nice effect. His skin is so rosey, like he just came in from the cold. Beautiful portrait!!

It doesn't look as though you struggled on any part of this. You obviously succeeded.

wonderful job on the portrait (and the beard is terrific)

You may feel you've struggled with the beard, but it looks great. His face is warm - is he looking down at his grandson?

Very nice, and the beard is excellent!
