Great atmosphere in this picture. Thank you for the incredible restraint in portraying what waves [I]are[I] in the picture. The treatment of the sky, clouds, mist are all extremely evocative. Wonderful picture. Who cares if the surfer's in the center..your composition has a beautiful and subtle invitation to follow the line of the beach and cliffs, and the surfer is a great anchor for this painting. Beautiful job.

Very effective mood. You have pulled the tension to the left with the gulls and to the right with the figure on top of the mountain (much too large unless it's Christ of the Andes)..nevertheless, it doesn't bother me either.
Perfection is for cameras. I like the whole effect.

Darrell.

Bravo!

I'm a right coaster but I've been on that other coast a few times and you just nailed it.

Is that a cross up on the hill? It conjures up a flood of images!

The title is great-it takes the focus off the surfer so who cares if hes in the center
Great job

Great painting. Is that a small sand storm at the background?

Thank you all for your gracious comments. The cross on the hill(I made it a little too big) comemorates a surfer who drowned at the beach several years ago. The atmosphere in the background is supposed to be mist, I might have too much color in it.
Thanks again....

I really like the sand. The tone is like sunsets I remember.

it is lovely and tells a story.
Was the photo taken with a flash or indooors with artificial light?

I tried everything with this camera(it's pretty cheap). I finally ended up using the night/moonlight setting with a flash. Even though I used a tripod all the others came out blurry. Would welcome any suggestions you have. Thanks...it is lovely and tells a story.

I can smell the salt air when I look at this picture. Very nice. I don't think the centered figure hurts the painting in any way. It just works.

By the way, there is an Australian painter / author who paints very much in this style. If I can find the book and get his name, I'll send a post.

Is it possible to take it outside or near a window and turn the flash off?
