I normally hang out in the Printmaking forum, but decided to check out this subject forum, as it's a subject that tends to be the mainstay of my work. I don't do anything anywhere near as detailed as most people seem to post here, but what the heck. I am not that patient, nor ever will be!

Here's a couple of my recent pen & watercolour sketches. I also am not a watercolourist by any stretch of the imagination, but I like using them to colour my field sketches.

Black Australorpe Rooster (caught snoozing! You'd think HE was the one doing all the work, and not the hens!)

I'm really happy with the colours in the shadows on this rabbit.

And I was extremely pleased with the feel I managed to capture in this sketch of the chooks. They were all crowded up at the fence watching me watching them; but of course, a chicken's attention span is short, so they soon started doing other chicken activities, and it was a blur of chicken-ness.

If you'd like to see more, please check out my most recent post on my blog (http://burnishings.blogspot.com/).

Cheers!

I love these but especially the rooster. I love the rooster and bet my daughter would love to have it in her new home in her kitchen decorated with roosters!!!!

Great work!

The rooster is so cool - there is an imediacy to all 3 pics that can be lost by those of us prone to overpainting

The sketches are great but this: "And I was extremely pleased with the feel I managed to capture in this sketch of the chooks. They were all crowded up at the fence watching me watching them; but of course, a chicken's attention span is short, so they soon started doing other chicken activities, and it was a blur of chicken-ness." Too funny. You gave me a good laugh! :)

Amie,
I love your lively spontaneous pen and watercolor sketches! You, not only captured the chooks at what they do best in a painting, but you also described them exactyly!!! Aren't they funny little characters, so busy scratching and clucking? Thank you so much for posting your beautiful sketches and making me laugh out loud!
Take care,
Angela

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments! I'm glad you each got a chuckle out of the chooks - me too!

I've seen this style with my cartoonist friend and I always like those speed strokes of paints that makes a lot of movements.
