Oook--I see that I need to refresh the spot of blue in front of the green weeds, though! It's amazing what you see on the computer! It just needs a few swishes over the top where I apparently blended it.

Thanks, Bruce. :D I like simple things.

Beautiful!! My first reaction when I saw it was "I want it". Very dramatic and explosive IMO.

If I am ever in Albuquerque can I knock on your door for a workshop? :)

Hi Deborah, I really like the blue shadows and the darkness in the upper right corner and that violet. How big is it?

Oh, thank you Karen. Weeds are lovely, aren't they?

Kathy, thanks. It's my 'usual' size, 11x17" (which frames out so nicely to 18x24" with a 3.5" mat.)

Deborah,
Love it!!
These tiniest little spots on earth are just as magical as vast expanses of visual beauty. I feel privelaged to be able to see them as jewels and you have shone a light on such a sparkler!
Very nice!

My reaction is.....I LOVE IT!

What is the width of the moulding you use with the 3.5" mat? I wish we could see this in your frame but it's hard to get a good picture of that isn't it? I haven't matted any of my paintings yet and would like to try it. It's so hard to pick out frames and matting at home and can't afford to have them done.

I love it Deborah. The shadow is fantastic.... It is so bold. I would have been afraid to do this thinking it would be too strong but it is just perfect
The dark purple in the left hand corner makes all the other colours sing.

I just love paintings where the shadow is as interesting as the subject. Or is the shadow the subject? Either way, this one is an attention-getter.

Personally would just like the shadows straightened across the path.... but apart from this little nit pic - love it, glorious - and love the colours

you have found a new strength of late for sure

Deborah.... That is so bright and unnusual and wonderful. I'd never have had the audacity to make a vivid blue shadow on a sandy path and my painting of "weeds" would have been totally "blah"! I think your painting may be breaking some old boring rules and that is what makes it so terrific!!!! Donna R.

Okay, here is a question for the "teacher." Are there different values in shadows, or are shadows always one value from one end to the other. I see a little value change, but I am thinking the shadows might be a touch darker just under the plants.

Right or wrong, teach?

"Dark at the root and ligher at the tip" (the 'dark roots' rule!), yes. Actually, even though my photo may not show it, I used three different colors of three slightly different values, so IRL it looks pretty convincing, I think. :D

I'm delighted that the rest of you have left such nice comments. Thanks...

How do you guys take such mundane subjects and magically transform them into masterpieces? These are some of the most beautiful weeds I've ever seen. (Karen does some awesome weeds herself.) I'd love to see a WIP of your next piece.

The painting makes my eyes smile, and it has my brain turning too... thinking of new ways to look at simple things! This is one of the things that makes you such a wonderful artist and an excellent teacher!!! Thanks, Deborah!
