Medium: Watercolors
Size: 9" x 12"
Reference: a photo by Kathryn8 in the Reference Image Library

I tried to stay loose and easy with this painting (not my usual style) using a larger brush (except when it came to painting the main flower).

Will be cross-posted in the Watercolor Forum. :D

i just saw this in the wc gallery and it's beautiful. great job! it's hard to loosen up when it's not your usual style, isn't it? i'm still struggling with that issue.

An unusual view point to see this at eye level and some landscape bground!
Very different - no wonder you were attracted to it!
Nice, gentle colouring too - I like the softness of this Sylvia!

Very nice, Sylvia.

Like the viewpoint and the serene feel to this.

I'm just wondering where Kathryn8 was to get this image!

Sylvia - a very nice effort.

One observation though. The general rule with reflections in water is that for the reflection - relative to the object:

lights are darker
darks are lighter
mid values are about the sameMaybe review whether all your "darks are lighter" enough?

As you didn't ask for a critique, I won't give one. ;)

Lovely painting and such an unusual angle. I have looked at that pic too and reserved it for future renderings.

Very beautiful rendering Sylvia. As for the reflections, on my monitor they look correct with lights being darker and darks being lighter. I like your background trees and lush undergrowth. I think maybe Kathyrn8 was swimming and came to the surface with her waterproof camera.

This has a nice feel to it. I love how the leaf curls up on the edges.

Vicki,
That leaf took a lot of work to make it look natural. Thanks for noticing it. ;)

Vivien, I'm glad you like it. It was fun to paint a flower for a change.
