Went out today and had the mind set to finish a piece which I did. Leaving the area I had to go down a steep enbankment and while doing so I lost my painting and it landed face down in last year's leaves. Oh man .. bent down to pick it up but the wind got it before I did and sent it tumbling down the other 20 feet picking up leaves on the way and getting a few good rubs. Again it landed face down.

I picked it up, glanced at it and realize that the whold left side of the piece was pretty well wiped away. Oh well, I will take it home to check it out and see what I can get out of my lesson. Made my way back to the truck and by now my hands were full of paint from handling the piece after it had fallen. I put it down to wipe some of the paint off my hands and the wind got it again this time putting it face down in the sand and light gravel. Wow! What a way to end a day.

Took it home and took this photo anyway to show you that you better have a carrying case if you decide to go through rough terraine like I did.

Remember, the viewer's left side is not like it was as it got wiped away to the point of being undistinguishable .. oh well... at least I'm getting some good exercise and seeing lots of wildlife.

Oh geez-- but you've really got something going here. Instead of trying to fix this directly (after all that, the surface must be a mess), why don't you use it as the basis for a studio piece?

I couldn't if I tried .. it's full of grass, leaves, sticks, mud, rocks, sand, and bugs etc. I will repaint it one day and use the knowledge and coloring scheme from this one. The main thing is I had a good thing going and I have a better handle on this Plein Air than I did yesterday so I am one step closer to being able to assert myself and paint "Plein Air.

Thanks for your 2 cents earlier.

Ruth .. thanks . will get on that one ..

Looks like rain all weekend so I will build myself a carry case and may even make myself a lightweight easle .. have to think that one but it shouldn't be a big deal as I only want it for one size canvas at the moment and if I make that piece removable I can alter it later. The only ones we have here are the Julian and that is too much money and weight. Like that Ez-go one but it's American which means big money as well with customs and exchange tagged on. Should be able to get some light pipe and I have a BIN who is a plumber so he can shape it and cut it for me .. hmmm .. got to get out that thinking cap.
This is a good concept and I'm for making things instead of buying them if and when you can. Here is my carry case I am using now .. it's an old brief case and I bolted a piece of wood on the side to hold the piece.

WAYNE! After reading all the mishaps {giggle, oops, sorry}I thought surely it would be such a dang ole mess I wouldn't be able to make out WHAT you painted but I was amazed!!!!!! Even if there are several samples of the real landscape on it, you certainly had a break though it sounds like so I am thrilled for that! Oh, boy more gear to make! I guess I better take up a collection from the rest of your fans, huh?

The snow IS melting and sunshine out so maybe in the next dew days I can get outside to this tree spot.

Just frame it and call it a plein air collage! Glad you made it out without injury, too! and the water in the scene is great!

In a pinch, a small pizza box makes a good carrier!

Hey Pres
.. there's nothing to do but laugh and take it all in stride. I have to look at all the little stumbling blocks as learning devices and move on. It's 5 in the morning and I'm awake so I think I'll put on the old rubber gloves and clean that sucker back to canvas so I can use it again.

CHClements
.. great idea .. I've seen worse than it in out National Galleries for Millions of $$$$$$.

Wayne, you're such a good sport, that must be why I like you so much! Lots of people wouldn't have bounced back as good naturedly as you have!! Keep us posted on this week ends work! Hope the rain stops! Vive la plein aire, or something like that!
