I'm enjoying Keys To Painting Fruit and Flowers edited by Rachel Rubin Wolf. It has information from 16 artists and covers watercolor, oils, pastels, color pencil and acrylics. It includes tips on floral anatomy, composition and drawing. 1-58180-003-7, North Light Books.
Added to the Ref. List ... thank you :D (Maureen)

I've heard good things about that book. Is a list of books in the works for any time soon?

Yes Cheryl. We this thread Florals/Botanical Forum Resources (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440248) we have started a list of books which we will add this one to.

Well, you all know about Heidi Willis but I'll put her name in here too. Her botanical studies are incredible. (Her time is limited but she has some existing WIPs and has said she will do more as her schedule allows.)
Edit: - Now added - thank you Laura!

My son introduced me to http://www.youtube.com/
It is a place where people upload videos they made them self.
I found some great vidioes on how to paint flowers.
Take a look at this video showing how to paint a rose in WC.
Edit: Thanks Marianne - we'll add that .... my only problem would be if it was taken off youtube - then the piece would be lost!

Maybe we could have a thread with links to YouTube and Yahoo video sites. Then folks would understand that the links may not be available in the future.
There's a wonderful demo by one of our members Lori Anderson of a still life with daisies. It's complete because she uses still shots and explains what she did in each step. Plus includes the colors and the mixes she uses. Kind of like a WIP here.

Yes that is a problem, but it's worth spending some time surfing

I subscribed to Bob Davies' newsletter and he sends notification when a new tutorial video is available. The link to his site is http://www.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/art-instruction-videos.html and that includes the rose tutorial.
Edit:Thanks! Now included in Resources thread :D

I would like to suggest "A Passion for Plants" by Shirley Sherwood, ISBN 0-30436-166-6 and "Contemporary Botanical Artists" also by Shirley Sherwood. ISBN0-297-83600-5. These are not books of instruction but are images of the paintings/drawings in her collection. Her collection is considered to be the finest group of contemporary botanical images in the world.

Many thanks Karen - I'll add them to the list.
Being a Botanical artist, I hope you stick around:)

Hi, I thought I would suggest another couple of books:
Watercolor Flower Portraits by Billy Showel, ISBN1-84448-066-6, Search Press - this book focuses on botanical illustration with step by step instructions with corresponding photographs
The Watercolour Artist's Flower Handbook by Patricia Seligman, ISBN 0-88762-157-0, Thomas Allen Publishers - this book has a broader scope and covers both floral and formal botanical illustration; lots of reading and lots of ideas
