View Full Version : Calling for Art Submissions from Artists Living with Chronic Pain:

08-18-2007, 07:34 AM
This is from the American Pain Foundation at www.painfoundation.org (http://www.painfoundation.org) I am planning on entering this event and wanted to share it with my artist friends on this forum who live with chronic pain and/or caregivers of people who have chronic pain.

I hope there is a large participation from Wet Canvas members in hopes of generating more artists here to this site. I am planning on mentioning Wet Canvas in my bio: how much it means to me to be a member of this site, how much the act of creating art has helped me, how much I have learned on this site and how much I appreciate WC and all the love and support I have found here from the members. Have fun!

The American Pain Foundation is a terrific site for those of us who live with chronic pain. I reccommend it highly.

Pain & Creativity

2007 APF Pain and Creativity Exhibit
The pain and creativity community will be ongoing, but to be considered for this opportunity to be honored and have your work featured, we need your submissions by September 20th.

We would like a variety of art (film, sculpture, words, painting, quilt blocks, etc.) from people who have pain or from people who are affected by pain. We ask that you digitally submit your work and also something about who you are, what this work represents for you, and how it expresses your experience of pain.

http://www.painfoundation.org/Images1/ART2.jpg1) Still Visual Arts: Contribute a digital photo of your artwork and a paragraph about yourself, the artwork you’re displaying, and how it represents your pain experience. Click here (http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/apf/) to be taken to the HealthCentral site to upload your photo and information. Join others in an online show of how pain has affected your life. Submit by September 20th for the opportunity to be honored and have your work featured.

http://www.painfoundation.org/Images1/Video.jpg2) Pain Video: Spread the word about how pain affects your life or the life of someone you love. Create a video and upload it to our Pain and Creativity site to share with others, provide inspiration and tell your story. Help us tell others the impact pain has on your life. Click here (http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/apf/) to be taken to the HealthCentral site to upload your video and information. Submit by September 20th for the opportunity to be honored and have your work featured.

http://www.painfoundation.org/Images1/quilt.jpg3) Pain Quilt: APF in conjunction with the Lagniappe Project of Baltimore, is calling for the submission of quilt blocks for the inclusion in a quilt which will reflect the experience of pain. Please create a 10” by 10” block or blocks that are made of fabric, or with a foundation of fabric. Other media (beads, fibers, feathers, etc.) may be used for embellishment. The blocks may be pieced or appliquéd, by hand or machine. They may be traditional or of original design. Please leave at least ¼” on all sides of the square for the seams which will join the squares together.

The blocks will each reflect the part that pain has played in the maker’s life. Quilts are a literal and figurative symbol of comfort and the joining of patchwork is a symbol of unity and community. Through the block design, construction, and joining to create a finished quilt, we hope that the artist finds comfort and unity.

Submit by September 1st for inclusion in the quilt and for the opportunity to be honored and have your work featured. Send quilt blocks directly to the American Pain Foundation, 201 N. Charles Street, Suite 710, Baltimore, MD 21201-4111. Please include this Signed Release Form (http://www.painfoundation.org/ManageYourPain/PainCreativityRF.pdf) with your quilt block submission. If you cannot print this, please call us at 1-888-615-7246 and request that we mail you the form; be sure to leave your name and address. The blocks will not be returned to the maker, and will become the property of APF. The finished quilts will be exhibited at APF’s 10th Anniversary Celebration in October and will be used for fundraising purposes through the Celebration Auction and/or through other fundraising efforts (cards, calendar, etc.). Click here (http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/apf/) to be taken to the HealthCentral site to upload a photo of your quilt block and information.

I have moved this to The Calling All Artists Forum, it is more appropriate here and will get a wider variety of artists viewing the thread.

I am new to this forum, have chronic pain, so am interested in entering this. I doesn't say if the painting will be for sale or if this is an exhibit only, maybe I missed that part?
