View Full Version : back from plein aire workshop
Hi y'all! I've been to Charleston, SC for a painting workshop. We painted at Magnolia Gardens for 2 days and in the hotel courtyard for the last day. The gallery that sponsored the workshop invited me to exhibit my work there! They kept two of my paintings and asked me to bring more when I get them finished and framed. :D
These are all oil, painted with knives. Canvas on masonite panel, 12 x 16.

Thank you jenrou!
I had been to Charleston a few times, asking to be accepted into galleries, and got snubbed, refused, ignored, and put on a 100-year waiting list! :D I said I wouldn't darken the door of any more galleries unless THEY asked ME. Well, this one did! See, the impossible CAN happen! :D

Finally, we have something close to an online gallery of a collection of your plein airs Ruth! I'll have to let my wife know, as she wanted to see more.
These are very nice. Wonderful sense of depth produced not only by strong contrasts of values, but very nice use of color. I imagine the instructor was quite pleased as well. Not surprised about the gallery's actions at all...and we've predicted it.
Much success.....

:D hee hee, RQ. Actually, my friends are twisting my arm to get me to do just that. We're going to do a practice workshop this summer and they'll be the guinea pigs for me to practice on. They don't know what they're asking!
Thanks, all y'all, for your kind words and good wishes. I'm honored to be able to share my news with my friends here. The encouragement and support from you helps to make good things keep happening, so thanks again!
Hugs,
Ruth

Nice work Ruth. Who was the instructor of the workshop or was it one that you attend as group workshop to go out to paint?

Ruth, Thanks for the two threads on your workshop experience.
The paintings are beautiful and since you credit the instructor with getting you started in oils, he must be very proud of your accomplishments.
That is an amazing amount of paintings for a workshop period. I told you plein aire is your forte. Looks like you won't be needing a marketing agent after all!
Congratulations.
