View Full Version : Rhapsody In Blue

I'm still working on a new floral so I thought I'd post one from a couple of months ago.

This is a watercolour on Fabriano Artistico extra white (I find it makes a big difference in florals) CP 140lb, measuring 13 x 10 inches. Painted from my own reference image.

I think Irises are one of my favourite flowers to paint, with the frills and flounces.

Comments and critiques are always welcome :)

Very delicate Ruth. You've caught the lightness of the iris well.

Thanks Maureen! I'm struggling at the moment with a deep red clematis - I think it's getting too heavy and want to get back to light flowers! lol

Oh this is lovely, irises are one of my favorites to paint also. Well done!

I agree about Irises and I love their lovely fragrance too. You've captured their delicacy and color wonderfully.

Totally lovely. I don't know how you get your watercolours to look so light.

Wow, this is beautiful! And for some reason, I am absolutely in love with the background. The colors are soft and rich, yet not glaring or too bright. Very grounding!

Sets off the irises well! :)

Very Nice! I love the glow you've achieved on the flower petals. Watercolors are so wonderful for florals, and you handle the medium well!!

This is breathtaking! Your style plays up the delicacy of the petals.

Very painterly, what I like and the background is picobello !

Thanks so much! It is a favourite and likely to end up on my wall (if I ever finish decorating!)

I didn't get back earlier because I got some kind of tummy bug and that laid me low for a couple of days.

Carol the secret is lots of water and patience (something I occasionally forget  )

Bayoudragon, I try to incorporate the colours from the flowers in the background, but in this one it was important to have some warmth in there to contrast with the blue. I'm happy you think it worked!

Thank you all again! :o
