View Full Version : A Couple of Acrylic Roses
08-12-2007, 05:16 PM
I painted these earlier this year - the golden rose is from a ref by Valchina which I chose because of the lighting, and the cream rose is from one of my own refs.
I painted the first as a Golden Wedding Anniversary gift - my husband wasn't too keen on it, so I painted the cream rose and gave that instead!
Both are on wrapped canvas, 20x16"

Maureen, these are both beautiful. I love the way you have caught the lighting in both of them. I hadn't seen the first one that you painted from one of my photos, and I'm so glad you've posted it. Love the variation in colour and the way you've done the folds.
I have had some of my Rose photos printed in an American Magazine, so I'm tickled, especially considering I'm Down Under in Australia.

You did well with the acrylics on both, but I favor the cream one, maybe because of the nice shadows.

oooh, Mum! These are absolutely beautiful! Are these done with your acrylic inks??

What do husbands know anyway - ha??!! I much prefer the first one though the second one is wonderful too. The first one is knock out gorgeous and very inspirational to me. Just that one leaf on the upper leaf takes my breath away with the delicate gloss. I could look at it for a very long time!

  Maureen, these are absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the shine that you captured on the top of the golden rose. Both are amazing!
It's great to see you here on this new forum- so glad I found it.

Maureen - love those warm colors on the first rose, and the composition of the second is lovely!
Another Beauty Maureen.
Best wishes, Ken..
P.S. check your PM's

Maureen, I like both of them but especially the first, probably because of the unusual perspective and the colours.

Maureen, Incredibly beautiful luster on the petal of the golden rose. I think the cream rose is so classy - gorgeous.

Well I absolutely love the golden rose. Such energy and delicacy at the same time. The cream rose is also quite well done and was probably very well received.

Thank you all!
Val - I'm so sorry that you hadn't seen this before - thought I'd sent you a link in March!
Everyone, the fact that you like #1 is entirely due to Val's photo - she it was who inspired me with it's light  ........ if only I could take photos like that!
Gayle - thought the light in the first would appeal to you - it's the drama! :D
Ken - I did check my Pms - just got back after a day out! :D Thanks again!

AWESOME Maureen. I especially like the white rose. Love the play of blue/purple tints over the bloom, and I absolutely love the composition of the white rose. I like the lighting in the yellow rose.

Wow, the peach one just blows me away! Beautiful!

I'm echoing the clappies and comments. Both are so beautiful, each in their own way. Well done! Now where is that envy icon . . . :D

Men!! What do they know? The first would have been a perfect present, as is the second. Incidentally what did you do with the first? Could send it my way. I would find a loving home for it here in the bedroom I'm thinking :D
I think I need to track down Val's flower photo.

Maureen- Wow these are beautiful. I love the light and deep shadows in the first one, nice close up composition too.
The 2nd one is so pretty too, I love all the soft tones... I know who to ask when I run into problems with my rose painting :D

I remember these; I adore the luminosity of the first one especially. It's magical.

Elaine - thank you for your honesty (read it in the email first!) - I think you may have found the reason why DH wasn't so keen on it! :D

I appreciate all comment folks - good or bad - they often help focus our minds y'know! :D

Beautiful roses!!!!! The golden macro would have been the perfect gift - just shows we should never listen to men! lol
I still struggle with roses, they look so simple yet they're the most difficult to get right!

Lovely, intimate roses--------------great job.

Thanks Ruth - I do think roses are easier to paint in acrylics than in w/colours! ....... maybe you should give them a try? :D Much more forgiving!
Thank you Tillie - and welcome to the forum.
I hope you'll be sharing some work here too :D
