Kentucky Getaway?!

July 19 - July 22

Ive been throwing around the idea of a getaway here in Kentucky.
Its great to have them in Florida...South Carolina or near any ocean!

BUT!

It makes for an extremly long distance getaway for people in the north
or central US!!

I'm about a 13 hour drive from Orlando...and a 13 hour drive from chicago!
Cant get much more "Middle" than this!

While its true we dont have an ocean we have beautiful mountain lined lakes..
mountain top apple orchards and tons of history to do with the coal mining industry.

Beautiful waterfalls and one of the best things is Cumberland Gap is very close
for you history types!....Yes you can even walk through the Gap if you want!

The place I had in mind is Benham Kentucky
Its a small community that was built during the mining days by the International Harvester Company
They have the wonderful "Schoolhouse Inn" there that serves gourmet food for lunch and dinner!

What about accommodations?? Is there a minimum amount of nights?? I am interested, but not totally sure yet. I would be driving down via route 81, is Benham right off there?

You can see that 81 will get you very close!within an hour maybe?

Plans are well on their way. We're planning a cookout at one of the state parks there on Friday night (so start remembering your ghost stories), and on Saturday night we've reserved a room at the Inn so we can have dinner (everyone chooses their own from the regular menu) and then have art demo's. I'm showing my fing flowers...anyone else care to do a demo?

Ok guys..big changes in the works!...If everything works out soon we may have a little artist community here set up and ready for retreats year round before too long!....We got grants from the state.....Weve got a lot of people interested in working at this and helping.....Weve got local politicians and state politicians pulling together with us....I think were gonna have something great soon!

Our getaway here is coming up soon!...I'm very excited and cant wait to meet everyone!...Going to try to be a really great host and show everyone some really beautiful sights here! And I'll try to have maps so if you want to get out on your own and explore you can.

Weve got some great people here that are really looking forward to meeting everyone as well!
