View Full Version : Jessika Rose Acrylic Painting 9x12
08-10-2007, 12:33 AM
I painted this in December as a Christmas gift. And I used Val's (valchiha612) reference photo, in fact it's one that she has in a thread right now. I think it's called something like "a rose for you".
Some of you may remember it, I had posted it in the Acrylic Forum in Dec 06.

Thanks so much for posting this Deb, as it is an awesome painting. I love the way you have captured the colours and the light and shade. This is one of my very favourite Roses, as it changes colour so much as it moves through its life cycle. I really am in awe of how real it looks. You're one great artist.
My Roses have just been pruned, so I've just got sticks at the moment -- I can't wait for them to start shooting, budding and flowering again. They should be in full flower in October.

Stunning! I love the colourful shadows, well observed!
What size is this? (I'm nosey :D )

Beautiful Deb. The colours in it just sing.

Thanks for the great reference Val :) It's funny to think that you are in winter right now.
Ruth- The size was put on the title, sorry I didn't add it inside the thread too. But this is a 9x12 acrylic....and thanks :)
Thanks Carol :)

Deb this is absolutely beautiful! From the warmth of the underside of the lower petals to the coolness of the outer petals it all 'works' wonderfully. The detail is marvellous and all 'topped off' by the dark background - I haven't touched acrylics in about 35 years ... this makes me wonder ...

So beautiful Deb!! Makes me what to get my acrylics out. What a lovely gift.

Gosh, Thanks so much :) You have all made my day. This was my first rose painting and it was a challenge.
Funny that a couple of you have said that you might get your acrylics out again. Because when I see your beautiful watercolors, and oils I think the same thing. Though I have never really tried them, I think I would really like to someday soon. :)

Not only are the colors beautifully painted, but the texture in the petals is super!
I run from painting flowers, but really appreciate those who can paint them so well.
Very nice work!

I agree with Damar. Aside from the superb coloration, the patiently executed linear texture to all the petals is great. I think your turning edges are splendid too. Why don't I remember this in Acrylics?

I feel like I can reach out and touch it. I don't remember seeing it before but it is fabulously executed! I'm happy to see it now.

It's definitely worth seeing again Deb!
the colours and form are superb!

Thanks Damar :) I hope you are going to paint the sunflower project in the DA and not run from it :D I look forward to seeing it :)
Celeste- Thanks, I don't know why you didn't see it? The Acrylic forum can move so fast sometimes... as you know. :)
Thanks so much Gayle and Maureen :)
