OMG Dorice, this is gorgeous, and what a lot of work in the background. I actually had to read your post the second time to see whether it was a painting or the Ref. Photo. I just love the entire painting.

Carol, Ruth, Val, flowerchild81, debsn2paintn, thank you so much! Worked on this bit by bit for awhile - not having much time on my hands, sometimes adding layers, sometimes some background colours, piecemeal. Finally decided it's finished. Thanks for looking!

What a beauty! Wonderful job, Dorice. I'm particularly envious of those fine , but oh so realistic, petals at the top - I'm trying to do something like that at the moment and my heart is sinking because I just don't have the skill or experience. Nice to be able to look at yours though :)

Dorice, I find this piece most enchanting. It's almost as if a Queen were addressing her subjects with all eyes fixed on her Majesty. Yes, the pointy top petals are the show stealer in my eyes. The blossom really pops against that rich dark background. Lots to admire here and I know how difficult watercolors are. Very nice.

Beautiful light, luscious darks - put them together and they make a gorgeous painting (the skill and talent help, of course!) :D :wink2:

Beautiful painting, but I am in awe of the background. Would love to see a step by step of how you do a background like that.

Nancy, Sue, Jeannette, gaykir, Charlie's Mum, Artsyme, C-Line, Bayoudragon, Robyn, thank you all so much for the wonderful comments.

Robyn, forget the skill or experience. Just go for it and see what turns up! Experience comes from just that ... :)

Jeannette, as for a step-by-step ... Yikes! I'm not sure how I did it, just added splotches of colour, let dry, added more, some wet on wet, some wet on dry, some dry on dry, some lifting, some scratching out with X-acto knife even! It's the first time I attempt this treatment.

Everyone, again, thanks so much for taking the time to look and especially commenting so encouragingly.
