I started to do this acrylic 18 x 24" on gallery wrapped canvas more realistically and remembered that someone suggest I try a more edgy take on florals, so, I thought this was the perfect flower to try it with. I've had fun on the painting tonight.

oooh, that's really pretty! Vibrant colors, and I love the blue... and right next to the yellow, it just jumps up and grabs ya! Well done! :)

I really like this edgy style, looks wonderful and I agree the colors really make this painting pop.

Lovely colours. Every time I see one of these plants I try to work out how to do them - and end up walking away and leaving it for next time.......

Thanks everyone. Working out the right colors/shapes/values of the background was rather difficult on this. Not finished yet, hope to post update tomorrow. At first it was just going to be a rather plain dark background. I liked the "leaves" better. I'm also wondering if the darkest shadow forms at the bottom and to the right of the bloom are too distracting/competing for attention? What do you think?

looking at again I think you are right, I'd tone them donw a little :) and maybe subtly different values of darkness in the different negative spaces?

Yep, that's what I'm thinking.
