Took this shot while hiking in one of 'my' parks. I drew this for the park to put on their brochure cover. Don't know how long that might be before it is printed, but it is for South Mountain Park if you are ever in Phoenix.

The oval shape isn't very good, I eyeballed it and made it somewhat elongated for that long brochure fold. Anyhow, I may add on to it to make the oval fuller (more full?) so it will fit into a standard oval mat.

Dan, I like this compostion, but there is one little thing that bothers me. Your wolf blends into the background. I suggest a darker value in the background to make the wolf pop.

Welcome, Dan... What a beautiful piece. I'm assuming it's pen and ink? What's the size? I agree with Sassy that a little value difference on the rocks or fur would be nice, but it also works as it is with that sort of 'animal blending with the landscape' idea.

Thanks Charissa, I realize the values on the coyote's back tend to blend in b/w, but I also intend to hand-color prints of this, so I'm not too inclined at this point to change it. I also think it kind of shows how well these guys can hide.
Thank you Diane, yes, pen & ink. I suppose we'll have to mention mediums in here until everyone is familiar with each other's work. Oh, and you already caught the hiding aspect...

Thanks Fred, it was my park for 12 yrs, so I have absorbed quite a bit of its fairly interesting history.

Dan, I can see where you are going now. I hope you post one of the hand tinted prints when you are done with them.

This would be a great addition to a brochure. So well done!

Charissa, I hope to get something going on prints once both the boys are back in school. I will definitely be posting a color version if I can get it right.
Thanks Mikki, Susan Ralph, I just talked to the ranger over at South Mtn and he said it looks like the brochure cover is out for now...they are trying to standardize our maps, and therefore our brochures for the various desert & mtn parks and preserves in Phoenix. I'm thinking it would work for all of them, but you can't always get what you want.
Thanks Jo, I've been wonderfully challenged in the pen & ink forum to get better and better since I started in pen & ink about 4 yrs ago
