View Full Version : Stormy Sunset
07-25-2007, 07:36 AM
Here's a twist on the wildflower paintings I've been doing lately. This is from a photo I took of an amazing sunset I witnessed one summer over the Deleware Bay. There had been a fierce storm so I thought that we'd miss the sunset....but it made a brief appearance and for a moment the sky was magical! c& c always appreciated.

Congratulations Karen! I think this painting has strong WOW factor :)
I also like the way the immediate foreground is out of focus to take us further into the field. Its gorgeous.
Yeah - I agree.
The background and the foreground both really complement each other really well. The flowers down below eye level really help you look up into the sky.
Very nice indeed.

I love it! The play of the warm orange/gold tones with those blues is a feast for the eyes. I love how you've created so much with so little detail.

Your painting is so very soft and pretty! Donna R.

I love this one, Karen! I am also amazed at how you use just the right amount of detail. Any more and it would be fussy but you always get it just right. Gorgeous colors and beautiful light.

A sure fire winner. this is stunning, great handling of the foreground against that beautiful sky. I like the play of complementary colors too.

Wonderful work - but I sure don't see summer - I see winter! I think this could be any season at all with those dramatic clouds.

i think your *painting* is magical !!
07-28-2007, 06:22 AM
I like the way you've kept the sunset to a subtler glow instead of going for really vivid colours :) and the tracery of flowers is delicately done.
07-28-2007, 06:24 AM
I keep clicking back onto this! It is beautiful…subtle and has a lot of feeling.
Very nice painting!

This is more than just beautiful. You've captured perfectly that post-storm moment of dynamic calm. The composition of your painting doesn't let the eye take it in all at once; it keeps moving around and returning to that soft orange at the center that pulls everything else together. I love the way you've balanced your pallette, using the same colors in different way-- part of how you captured both the energy and the calm. It's both exciting and relaxing. I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but my jaw dropped when I saw it-- I didn't expect anything so unusual and so lovely from the thread title. I know better now!
We might have to set up a revolving list of people who get to hang this in their homes for a week at a time.

Very atmospheric painting. Congratulations.

I was almost ready to call it a night when I saw the title of your piece (yes! I don't look if the title doesn't at least get my interest). I am glad I stopped, your piece is one of the best I've seen tonite. It speaks to me, there is a story hidden that makes me think this is not just a "painting" but a genuine piece of art. Everything about this art works as a whole. I also wish I could afford something this good for my own home. It pleaseth the eyes.
wow! Strikingly beautifull!
