Hi everyone, completed the gold on black letter, it has a William Morris influence to it. The size is 4"x4" painted with gouache and dip brush gold ink.

Hi Daniel, thank you for your comments. Looked at your letter 'A', you have the right idea. Love your scrolling and leaves around the letter.
A couple of tips for you.To get a finer finish on your gouache without brush strokes showing I always dilute it with a little water to make it flow better. You have to use a very soft brush, I use sable brushes but I think you can get alternatives as long as they are soft. Use the correct size brush for the size of the area you are painting. You can also dilute gouache to an ink consistency and use a pen to apply it to small lettering or detail.
Another good bit of advice that 'quills' gave you is to get a book on 'calligraphy' or 'illuminated lettering' they can give you loads of info and hints and tips etc. I have learned everything I know concerning art from reading books.
