View Full Version : Le Mans 2007
07-16-2007, 06:29 AM
i'm busy painting some of the cars, driving at this years 24 hours of Le Mans.
still got a few to go...to keep my motivation up,i will post them here as a go along...hope you enjoy them!
here the first two, both acrylic on gessoed paper 8x12"
a Spyker, going wide riding the curbs and a Panoz Esperante at sunset,
what i like most about Le Mans is the changing weather, light and atmosphere...

Pretty amazing stuff. Like the loose and painterly quality and yet all the information is there to see.
07-16-2007, 07:53 AM
Again two wonderful paintings Bobbo:thumbsup:

Your work has it all, light, color, movement, action and moments caught in time. I really like the way you use that brush.
07-16-2007, 08:02 AM
Nuthin' short of amazing!
07-16-2007, 08:40 AM
These are great, I bet the are wonderful in real life. Keep going. Jan
07-16-2007, 09:12 AM
I always enjoy seeing your work
07-16-2007, 09:20 AM
Love them both!
07-16-2007, 01:32 PM
Well done as usual Rob. And I don't like cars or racing!!! Great work!!
07-16-2007, 02:01 PM
outstanding, as always! I don't watch races, but I'd hang up every single one of your paintings. Do you sell them? You should have a booth at the races, sell posters (and t-shirts!) with your images. They are so full of energy, the cars literally flying across the paper. I'd imagine these selling out in no time.
Matter of fact, put together a book with them and I'll buy it!
07-16-2007, 03:04 PM
Wow, I love the colours and feeling of movement. You have a great style of painting!
07-16-2007, 03:04 PM
These are excellent! Packed with action and color.
07-16-2007, 04:47 PM
These are fantastic. Beautiful brushwork and colors so exciting.
07-16-2007, 06:15 PM
I don't like cars very much - but I'm a sucker for your paintings Rob ..... just love 'em!
I think it's the light and colour - maybe the way the paint's applied .... just love 'em :D
this is great stuff. I tried to paint the GT's racing @ Monza, off the tele. and
got in a right mess trying to paint the heat haze .
You've captured the heat, speed, colour diffractions etc admirably.
I,m envious, I must try harder to paint loose yet retain all the info as you have
Well Done !
07-16-2007, 07:30 PM
Terrific way to capture movement.
07-16-2007, 07:33 PM
thank you all for your generous comments,
you sure keep my motivation up!
it is a difficult balance and can easely tip either way...
good to hear from you
you make it sound good,
i use a big old brush...
thank you Anthony!
they are fun to do,most of the time...
the pixels can never do a painting justice,
we all got this problem, still it is great to share this way.
07-16-2007, 07:53 PM
always enjoy your approval
love you too!
compliments from non car enthousiast,
are extra welcome!
i rather paint than sell!
but a book would be a nice idea
i put you on the mailing list!
thank you Lillian,
i can't help it,racing cars excite me!
I think it's all been said and I have to just agree. Wonderful stuff!!!
07-17-2007, 02:50 AM
FANTASTIC!!! Love the first one especially--might be the view. Big brushes do have a tendency, I think, to keeping one painting loosely...the colors are just great--only wish these were a bigger size!
07-17-2007, 04:02 AM
That first one just kills me. Brilliant work.
07-17-2007, 11:51 PM
These are outstanding. Great paintings. They are a joy just to see.
07-18-2007, 05:33 AM
action is what it's all about
glad it came across
i tell you, these cars are exciting to paint!
good to hear from you again Maureen,
it is also the values, nothing works without them.
hello Wilt,fellow Welshman,
how are you coping with this awfull weather?
believe me i mess up many a time!
all part of the learning process...
07-18-2007, 05:38 AM
glad it moves you!
it has all been said indeed Randy,
just can't get enough off it!
you are right Michele,
big brushes are the key to keep things loose,
old brushes are even better,
it stops you from detailing to much,
and keeps the overall feel.
wich is what painting is all about!
i hope you recover soon Howy!
but i hope i knock you out with the next lot too!
believe me they are more fun to do than just to see
07-18-2007, 05:45 AM
ok here is the next lot folks...
they are a bit different from the first two action shots,
more like my landscape paintings, approached them as plein airs,
gave myself a time limit of two hours,to keep things fresh and moving
both acrylic on gessoed paper

Can see that you are so engrossed in motor racing and your passion is expressed so well in your work. Can hear the power of those cars in your painting.
07-19-2007, 01:59 AM
WOW what a fantastic style you have there. I love the paintings and the way the lighting is reflecting off the cars. Amazing stuff.

Really great work, I love your style and subject matter. Great to see more automotive artists around, it makes me feel more comfortable to post my paintings!
07-20-2007, 07:25 PM
two more great ones, can hear the engines roar for sure! Can't wait for the book!
I really think these would sell very well, even just as nicely done prints with some matting and a simple black metal frame. But yeah, I rather paint than sell too - not that I plan on selling anyways.
07-21-2007, 10:07 AM
good to hear you like it.
don't have a list yet!
thanks for your great comments
bitchin' i like that Roger!
just had a look at your vintage Nascar

07-23-2007, 10:52 AM
Me three , your technique is great !!!
07-23-2007, 11:06 AM
what can i say tbolt
thanks very much!
07-23-2007, 11:46 AM
i love the painterly style also ..they all have a pretty quality about them...that i never thought i would say about car`s lol.
i love em.
07-25-2007, 09:55 AM
Absolutely love these...
One thing to note in the first one - the strong, well defined horizontal lines in the blue and yellow "slow downs" the image - a bit of a looser treatment and that car absolutely flies!
07-25-2007, 09:56 AM
Just saw the rest of the stuff you've posted here. Fantastic!
07-25-2007, 01:48 PM
i'm glad you changed your mind!
maybe you are right, those stripes were the hardest bit,as you can see i tried to break those lines up,but...the car has to move faster than the scenery!...i can't stand those paintings where the car is sharp and detailed and the background blurred,it just makes no sense
thanks for taking the time!
07-25-2007, 02:53 PM
wow..I really like your brushwork and the play of colors....I'm studying your style VERY hard!!!

Wonderful! So exciting! I especially like how the dots of color help move the eye around the paintings. They make me want to like racing. Great work!
08-02-2007, 05:49 PM
thanks Holly and Linda
they were fun to paint!
08-02-2007, 09:02 PM
