I don't really know what this is a painting of. I just started painting and this was the result. For the title I was thinking of naming it "Abyss 13" since I finished it this morning (the 13th). I'm off to post it in the fantasy/sci-fi forum as well.

Acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20 inches;

I enjoyed your painting and love the design/composition. It is rather eerie though lol. Makes one think!

Thanks everyone! I actually use a knife rather than brushes for applying the majority of paint, but I did use a big bushy brush for blending out the background and a liner brush for some of the details.

that's done with a knife? ... wow ... would like to be a fly on the wall watching you do such stuff !! ...

Thanks Violet! You can see much more easily in person that it was painted with a knife because of the texture. I like the fact that a knife makes me paint in a more impromptu manner, so I stay focused on the overall expression more than the details. Otherwise I lose myself in the individual brush strokes and details and lose the impact of the overall composition, sort of like seeing only the trees and not the forest.

got to know tho ... do you have a drawing on your canvas that you're embellishing or are you creating that detail on the fly? ...

I roughly sketched it in first, but then I painted the background over everything which completely covered the sketch, so I had to go entirely from memory. The end result has little in common with the original sketch other than the basic layout.

its very dark and difficult to see well on my screen but intriuging as well. I believe theres 2 skelatel shapes eithering battling or dancing. Very interesting and well painted, I wish I could see it IRL

wonderful eerie quality to the light that corresponds nicely with the subject matter.

I like the iridescent quality here...even if it is a tad scary subject. :)
