Hey there  Been working diligently towards my show in September. This is the second in a series of ocean sailing. My first sailboat and not totally happy with it. The boat is foreshortened in the photo and it drove me nutz - had some help from a sailing friend.

I did, however, have fun with those waves - using a shaper to get the curvature of the wave.

C&C - although not totally finished. I see here that the clouds are showing too yellow (my photo) and the water is not showing up as saturated darks in the painting. So forgive the poor photo.

18 x 24, mounted Wallis

Thanks Cindy - I do too, maybe that's why I am painting this series.

I've got the rigging left to do and will try to get a better photo - the cyans are not showing up as such.

Awesome water! This is so nice. I like the mountain in the background and your beautiful sky too. I need to get a color shaper, what size is most useful? I think they usually come in sets and I never know whether to go for the small or the large.

Donna - I've used the little small pointed one on up to this half round shaper.

Piper - you actually "got" the title - I am painting on uncharted waters, thus the titles for these two paintings - :)

Hi Kat, your series is expanding! I love the sky and am enjoying the tension in the painting from the tilted sailboat. Nice work.

'splain yourself - :)

Kathryn - we x-posted - thanks! I am really liking working with this shaper. Almost like brush painting the way I am using it.

Very nice painting Kathryn.... just one thought though... I wonder if the hills could be a deep olive green or some colour that would really punch up the aerial perspective.. and give the sea some punch...just a thought.. its a fabulous composition...

Bruce - I'll give it a try on the fore mountain - I like the back mountain IRL, so will let that one be.

Mary, thanks for the kind comment!

Kat, the contrast and tension of the directions of the lines in this piece really make the composition. Very nicely done.

Oh, I must give credit to the photographer - this is another of Carlanna's photos in the RIL. She has such great photos to work from.

Just great, Kat. I really like the blues of your water and the distant sailboats add a nice touch.
PB15.4 must have something to so with blues socks.....

Beautiful finish, Kat. I love those touches of green/turquoise in the water and the subtle hints of pink and yellow in the clouds.

I just love this Kat! The colors are so vibrant. I can just feel the warmth of the sun, the cool of the splashing water, and the excitement of the movement of the boat. Beautifully done!

Kat....I always reply to my first instincton opening the thread,,,,,I love the peachy color of the sky, but if just a few strokes of that great color were reflected in the water splash, I think the composition would hold together better....the horion line seems to create 2 paintings.
