I love horses so I wanted to paint a horse. This is my first horse and I love painting horses already. It's not done yet. I wanted to ask what I should do with the backgroundcolor. I like the lightning effect around the head but I don't think I'd like to stick with the paper color as a background. I thought about dark blue? Or Marsviolet (very dark brownish violet)?
I also have obviously a problem with the hair. Any suggestions?
It's done on a gray velvetpaper with Rembrandt and Schmincke.

Very cute guy, this fellow is. Don't you just love working with the manes on the Haflingers?
Because your horse is light in color, and you have some of the brownish/violet colors in him, that is the color I would use for the background. I think that color would compliment him beautifully.
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

I took your advice and choosed for violet colours as background. The blue 'halo' around the horse is more purple than blue, the photograpg shifted some colors.
I worked on the eye, trying to get more live in it and worked on the manes and I corrected the bones under the eye (anatomical error). I also worked on the shadows on the neck.
What do you think? Any more suggestions or possibilities to get it better?
