View Full Version : Waves on Rocks

Hi, I think I'm finished with this one. Rocks are always tough. Do the clouds on the horizon draw the eye away from the waves? 9X14 (I think) canvas panel. C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking.

I like the range of darks and lights, and the nice job you did with the rocks. The clouds on the horizon do not distract me, but the color of the sky seems a bit bright.

I think the clouds do distract me a bit, but the rocks do and waves bring me in and hold my attention, :)

The sky is a bit overwhelming, I think I would prefer a more mutted sky, and clouds. That would make the rocks and waves pop more. This is a great painting, I like it. Jan

I have to agree with Jan. The blues overall are very bright and somewhat unnatural. A couple more glazes of colour and this will definitely be work hanging on the wall.

I have to agree too...you painted the rocks and splashing waves with such dynamism and the prominent sky/bright band of horizontal clouds do compete a bit...I think you could emphasize the energy of the foreground better by "disappearing" the background. Really nice work Tim, thanks for sharing.
