Here's one I did in this little Tuscan village, near Pistoia.

I like the way the edges just fade off in this one; it suggests the rest of the village and is quite charming.

Very nice! You've definitely caught that distinctive Italian flavor.

Hi Peter,

Lovely painting! Italy sounds amazing!! and by your work looks amazing too! It is much more interesting to see the world through the eyes of other artists than photographs. I like your treatment of the foliage especially and think you were very brave to tackle all those multiple perspectives. Shadows are nice, well done.

Pleased you enjoyed this one as it is one of my favourites - now hanging on the wall of a good friend in Tortola, BVI.

Rose - I like to fade off the edges, but usually I sort of forget! Thanks for reminding me!

Walden - thanks, I'm very happy when I can capture the feeling of a place, even if some of the technicalities of the painting "suffer". I think this is why I prefer painting outdoors instead of from photos.

Larry - I'm moving to Friedrichshafen on 14th June, staying with a friend until I find an appartment (I want a South balcony with a view over the lake and the Swiss alps! lol). But I'll be back in Italy every month, so still opportunity there. Did you see the area around Lake Constance (Bodensee)? See www.lindau.de and click on "Bilder/Ansichten". Sorry if I'm repeating this!

Thanks Pam - I like a challenge. The secret is to judge whether the challenge is way too big! lol But you usually don't know that until you try!

Another excellent painting, Peter. One day I will get the chance to visit Tuscany and do some plein air myself.

Thanks for the link to Lindau, it brought back happy memories. I called in at Lindau on a motoring tour of Austria and Germany, and was surprised when walking out of the car park to come across nude bathers along the lakeside! When we recovered we took a steamer across the lake and back.

Best wishes on your search for the ideal appartment.

Which year was that Doug?

I might have been one of those nude bathers! lol

I'm looking forward to getting back there. Spent 16 yrs in Friedrichshafen and 6 in Italy. Time I settled down!

Hi Peter,

I toured Germany and France for several years, and took in Lindau and Friedrichshaven on my way home from Salzburg, Innsbruck, Garmisch, Kloster Ettal, Oberammergau, Neuschwanstein and Fussen. I had 1 night B&B in Friedrichshaven! We love the mountains and lakes of the Tyrolean Alps. I think it would have been around 1987.

Yes Doug, it's a wonderful area. I was around at that time - did a lot of ski-touring and hiking then. Look me up if you decide to come over again.
